6 Ways To Make Your Hair Less Greasy, Ya Filthy Animal

by The Frisky April 19, 2019

You could wash your hair every day, or you could live your damn life. The good news is messy buns and the return of the “fashion hoodie” mean greasy hair isn’t always something to worry about. The great news is there are plenty of ways to make hair less greasy if you’re so inclined. Step away from the shower, keep the hoodie on, and let’s explore our options:

Dry shampoo, a girl’s best friend

Pretty much every major haircare line has introduced a dry shampoo, a product meant to soak up excess oil and send you smelling great on your merry way Monday through Thursday without so much as a drop of H20 on your head. I recommend Bumble & Bumble Pret-á-Powder ($27) for morning styling — especially if you like a little volume — and luxe-smelling Elizabeth and James Nirvana ($80) for sprucing up before after work-drinks.

Headbands, headbands, headbands

This one is self-explanatory — just throw that hot mess behind the closest headband. This Coachella-ready headscarf look may make you ill right now, but just wait until you have brunch plans in 10 minutes on Sunday morning and there’s no way you’re going to have time to shower. Plus, it’s going to end up looking cute. Just try it.

Braids are very in right now

Cornrows/boxer braids have shown up on everyone from Sasha Obama(good) to Khloe Kardashian(eh). Here are 365 days of braid options to choose from courtesy of Victoria’s Secret Angel hairstylist Sarah Potempa.

Just wash your bangs

Only have time for a quick sprucing? Go business in the front, party in the back with a quick sink shampoo of the part of your hair that first faces the world. Anyone who’s kissing your forehead will appreciate it.

Wash less often to begin with

If you find your hair getting greasy immediately after you wash, it may be due to (yes!!!) overwashing, which strips the hair of oils and encourages it to produce more in turn to counterbalance. Start by washing every other day, but we won’t tell if you skip to every three or four – especially if you have color-treated hair and a healthy arsenal of dry shampoo.

Shop in the baby aisle

Celebrity stylists will often skip dry shampoo in favor of old school baby powder to suck up oil on the scalp. Add a teeny tiny amount to your hairline, then make sure you brush away any of that excess white powder.
