Always change your default WiFi Name

When you buy a new router, it comes with a default wifi name like “Linksys”. It looks very unprofessional, and hackers may target your wifi network. So it’s recommended changing your default wifi router name to some cool and funny wifi names to make it super cool and unique and make your neighbors smile with your cool wifi name.

Change Your Default WiFi Password To a Strong One

The default wifi router password is very weak and it is very easy to crack by hackers. You can change your wifi router password from the router setting. Always set your wifi router to a strong one a strong password contains:

  • 12 Characters, Minimum.
  • Includes Numbers, Symbols, Capital Letters, and Lower-Case Letters.
  • Doesn’t Rely on Obvious Substitutions (like “H0use”, it doesn’t create a strong password by change o with 0).
  • Example of a strong password “My_Hou$e329”.

So always choose a strong password to makes it strong enough for the hackers.

Turn off the WPS

WPS button helps you to connect wifi easily without entering the password you just have to press the WPS button while connecting your device. It makes the connection between your device and wifi router easy, but on the other hand, it is also risky.

If your wifi router is easily accessible by everyone so anyone who wants wifi can easily connect their device with your wifi by simply pushing a button. The more users connected to wifi the speed will slow. So if you want limited users and good security for your wifi network then make sure to turn off WPS from router setting.

Use Strong Wireless Encryption

“WEP” encryption is not strong encryption it can be cracked by the tools as aircrack and hackers can break into your network in no time. There are numbers of encryptions available like WEP, WPA, and WPA2.

Among all the encryptions  WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access version 2) is strong and commonly used nowadays, it helps you to keep your network secure from the hackers. As the technology is advancing so as new encryption is available to you update your router asap to latest one.

Shut down the router when it’s not being used

It’s a good practice to turn your router off when it’s not being used. If your router is not used over the course of day and night then it’s is adviced to turn off your router when it’s not in use. This will helps you to cut the access of your wifi from bad guys.

Always Keep Your Router Firmware Update

Regularly check your router firmware updates on your router company websites and make sure to keep your router firmware up to date because it’s very important in each new update some bugs and patches are fixed which helps you to keep your router more secure.

Monitor your network

You can easily monitor your network from your router setting and keep an eye who is using your wifi and if you found any suspicious user you can easily kick them off and can secure your router, and it will also help you to increase your wifi speed by removing the unwanted users from your network.
