1. The King’s speech- speech disfluency occurs even among kings
Movies about monarchs are very popular both in the United States and in Europe. These can be Queen Elizabeth II documentaries and films and about other kings and queens. If you enjoy this genre, we recommend a movie about King George VI, which takes place in the 1940s. The film’s axis is the future monarch’s struggle with stuttering, a speech defect that accompanied him for a long time, probably because young Prince Albert had been forced to study writing with the right hand even though he was left-handed. Tom Hooper’s film The King’s Speech won 4 Oscars.

2. The Theory of Everything- Above all things?
Another famous persona worth learning about is Stephen Hawking himself. The film by James Marsh – The Theory of Everything – presents the life and challenges of the brilliant English scientist. In the movie, we witness a developing relationship between Stephen and his future wife, Jane Wilde. However, there is no idyllic life between two people. Stephen Hawking develops a disease called amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. How does the genius mind of a scientist deal with the progressive disease? The film is worth watching, and Eddie Redmayne received an Oscar for the leading male role.
3. The Passionate Life of Edith Piaf- a challenging career of the extraordinary voice
Another interesting person with her own film story is Edith Piaf, a French singer endowed with exceptional vocal talent. Her life depicted in The Passionate Life of Edith Piaf was not a bed of roses. On the contrary, young Edith struggled with traumatic adversities for a long time. Just to mention a few: as a child, she was abandoned and grew up in a brothel, wandered around for a while, and as her music career began to gain momentum, she was charged with murder. The significant role played by Marion Cotillard certainly encourages people to watch this movie.
4. The Wolf of Wall Street- a story about Jordan Belfort
Martin Scorsese, one of the best contemporary directors, created a film based on the true story of Jordan Belfort’s controversial life. The young, promising boy made a dizzying and spectacular career in the financial world. The tremendous success he achieved made Belfort want to test boundaries and bend various limits around him. The Wolf of Wall Street features Leonardo DiCaprio, who won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in this great role.
Another great movie is David Fincher’s The Social Network (2010). Who wouldn’t be curious how the idea of Facebook was born! With the intriguing script, good cast, and extraordinary music, this film does not get old despite the passage of time. Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor were awarded an Oscar for Best Soundtrack.
6. Official secrets – a bit of political conundrum
This is a political thriller that was made in 2019 and was directed by Gavin Hood. With Keira Knightly, Matt Smith and Mathew Good this thriller is depicting a real-life greatest failure of the world. It revolves around Keira’s character, working as a British war intelligence specialist, intercepts info about US plan to blackmail politicians into consenting to an Iraq invasion, she makes a really tough decision of leaking that memo to the press and hoping that it would make a change. It all goes sideways as you probably figured out and Keira is now left to fight the broken regime and try and put some sense into the entire thing.
7. Dolemite is my name – a comedy that will blow you away
Eddie Murphy still got what it takes to perform on the top of the game. Despite the years his sense of humour and his choice in movies still hasn’t gone bad. Dolemite Is My Name is a biographical comedy about a real-life legend Rudy Raymore, a comedy and rap pioneer who had one thing in mind and that is to prove the naysayers wrong. He did that by making his alter ego Dolemite became a 1970s Blaxploitation phenomenon. The movie as well as Murphy’s awesome performance picked up positive reviews. The cast of the movie gathers names like Eddie Murphy, Divine Joy Randolph, Keegan Michael K and Mike Epps. The movie was directed by Craig Brewer who did a phenomenal job at it.
8. The Two Popes – awesome religious drama
Director Fernando Meirelles is a genius. The way that he put two worlds together and showcase the differences of something going away and something in the coming is remarkable. Any movie that includes Antony Hopkins and Jonatan Price must be awesome. These two movie giants made all of this look so real and tangible to the viewers, every scene was like you witnessed it yourself. It revolves around the Vatican and the actions behind the walls of it where Pope Benedict and future Pope Francis must find a common ground that will be a bedrock on which they continue leading the Catholic Church. Brilliant cast and deep character work are what you will get with just enough drama that will truly absorb you in.
9. Dark Waters – the system is rigged
This is a legal thriller film that stars Mark Ruffalo, Anne Hathaway, Tim Robins and was directed by Todd Haynes. A very tenacious lawyer is about to uncover what seems to be a very corrupt system that is backing a global mayor corporation after he caught a glimpse at what seem to be some very mysterious deaths that end up leading straight to a horrific conspiracy. While looking into those murders his life gets attacked by that rigged system and he finds himself, his family, job and everything around him on a very steep and high cliff.
