While October is devoted to raising awareness for breast cancer, November is all about the gentlemen. During the month of November, or “Movember,” as the Movember Foundation likes to call it, men around the world will grow the kind of facial hair many of us see as gross, cheesy, and porn star-esque for a good cause. (“Mo” is slang for mustache in Australia, where Movember started, originally with the sole goal of bringing back the mustache.)
Since 2004, Movember participants have raised $47 million for its beneficiary partners, which include the Prostate Cancer Foundation and Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong Foundation. If you’re a guy who has always wanted to grow a mustache (or you’re a gal who knows such a man), sign up to participate on Movember’s website, start with a clean-shaven face at the beginning of the month, and ask for your friends’ moral and financial support throughout the month.
