El Paso Police Officer Kenneth Lee Sheka, 28, was arrested on Tuesday after firing off his gun in the middle of a law enforcement convention at the Chase Suites Hotel.
Sheka had started talking to one of the servers working the event, eventually making some rather explicit comments towards her, and “inappropriately touching her.” The server told him to stop, at which point he became enraged and pulled out his weapon and started firing at the wall. Luckily, no one was harmed.
Sheka was arrested on one count of Deadly Conduct/Discharge of Firearm and the Temple Police Department spokesperson suggested that he could also face disciplinary actions.
Wait, wait, wait just a second here–he could face disciplinary actions? Like, this is a maybe? This guy isn’t going to be fired immediately? This guy pulled out a gun and fired it into a wall, in front of hundreds of other police officers, because a server wouldn’t let him grab her ass and he “could face disciplinary actions?” What even are those? Just like, a quick chat with IA? Desk duty? Paid leave for a bit?
In what world does anyone look at a fella who pulls something like this and goes “Oh, yeah, it’s definitely a great idea that he’s a cop! Definitely want that dude out on the street, with a gun.“
Hopefully that won’t be the case and this dude will be fired–and perhaps some of his fellow cops might want to keep a close eye on him, because with a temper like that it’s pretty unlikely that this is the worst thing he’s ever going to do.
