- “Modern Family” star Sarah Hyland, 23, received a temporary restraining order against her longtime boyfriend Matt Prokop on Friday following an increasing pattern of physical and emotional abuse. In her filing, she claims Prokop has slammed her against the back of her car, choked her, threatened to set her house on fire, and threatened to kill her dog. She claims Prokop has threatened to kill himself if they break up. In August, Hyland said she reached out to Prokop’s mother in Texas to ask for help, but that his mom told her that if she broke up with her son and he killed himself, it would be Hyland’s fault. The actress also detailed how she sought the help of her “Modern Family” co-star Julie Bowen to help end the relationship and Prokop told Bowen “he wanted to make me so miserable that I would take a shotgun and kill myself.” Prokop entered rehab in late August and Hyland sought the restraining order on the advisement of the rehab director, who contacted her to warm her about “Mr. Prokop’s mental state and attitude toward me.” What a scary thing to go through — I hope she is safe.
