You’d think that if you already have what your heart desires, there won’t be any need for any kind of thieving. But, for some celebrities, that is not the case. “It gives them the ‘rush,’ a ‘high,'” Barbara Staib, director of communications for the National Association for Shoplifting Prevention, shared with BBC in 2012. “It can be a relief,” she said, “if only a temporary one.”

“To be a celebrity you have to take lots of chances,” psychiatrist Dr. Heather Krell said. “You have to get caught up in the moment. And it certainly seems that that’s part of shoplifting.” Here is a list of the celebrities who were caught shoplifting.

Contents

  • Lindsay Lohan
  • Rex Reed
  • Tila Tequila
  • Shaun Weiss
  • Amanda Bynes
  • Winona Ryder
  • Megan Fox
  • Lainie Kazan
  • Shelley Morrison
  • Kim Richards
  • Britney Spears
  • Jake Gyllenhaal

Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan sure has a troublesome past. In 2011 Lindsay Lohan appeared at the L.A. Airport Courthouse to face charges about a stolen necklace from a Venice jewelry shop, which was valued around $2,500. As TMZ states, Lohan insisted the necklace had been “loaned to her.” She later wrote on Facebook: “I would never steal. … I was not raised to lie, cheat, or steal.” On the other hand, an assistant told TMZ: “She wanted to give the necklace back to the store the day after she took it from the store, but she was very busy.”

Rex Reed

In February 2000, Rex Reed broke out of a Tower Records in Manhattan, discreetly bearing a few CDs on his person that he had forgotten to buy. As CBS News states, the music covered California Suite by Mel Torme, Songs from Pete by Peggy Lee, and Carmen McRae’s Easy to Love. Reed supposedly took two of those discs into his coat pocket, while another CD was reportedly tucked into the “rear waistband” of his pants.

Tila Tequila

Tequila shared on MySpace in 2010 that she had “lost [her] wallet” and “was SO HUNGRY” that day that she made a decision to go to a closeby CVS Pharmacy and take “some bubble gum” and a bag of potato chips. “Unfortunately the security guard caught me shoplifting!” she said. Tequila afterward had to go to court, and was apparently so excited by everything happening, that she decided she could “certify myself a REAL GANGSTA!”

Shaun Weiss

He is most famous for his roles in The Mighty Ducks and Heavyweights. In November 2018, Weiss was caught after taking more than “$200 worth” of goods from a Rite Aid in Los Angeles. TMZ earlier stated that Weiss supposedly stole $151 worth of merchandises from Fry’s Electronics in 2017.

Amanda Bynes

In 2014 actress Amanda Bynes supposedly walked out of the high-end retailer without paying for a hat. She shared with People that she left Barneys in order to avoid their grasps, but was still wearing the hat at the time of the escape. “I basically just had to leave,” she said, explaining that management told her, “‘Please, just don’t shop at Barneys anymore.'”

Winona Ryder

In 2001, Ryder was busted after supposedly walking out of a Beverly Hills Saks Fifth Avenue supplied with roughly “$5,000 worth of clothes, hair accessories, and a handbag” that she hadn’t purchased. Ryder was further “charged with illegal possession of an antidepressant drug.”

Megan Fox

In 2009, the Daily Express reported that the actress was “banned from the chain store” as a teenager after trying to steal makeup from the Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen line of cosmetics. “I don’t know if the ban was for life,” Fox stated.

Lainie Kazan

On Christmas Eve 2017, Lainie Kazan was detained after supposedly trying to get away with about $180 in groceries from a Gelson’s supermarket in California.

Shelley Morrison

In 2003, Morrison took “$446 worth of costume jewelry from Robinsons-May department store,” as stated by People.

Kim Richards

In August 2015, Kim Richards ended up in jail “on suspicion of shoplifting.” TMZ stated that she collected roughly “two shopping carts full of stuff” mostly of “toys and beauty products” from “the dollar section.”

Britney Spears

In 2007 Britney Spears supposedly wanted to try some “saucy knickers,” and was infuriated to hear that she couldn’t try them on before purchasing them. An insider said that the store just doesn’t “allow people to try on underwear,” and this rule apparently “upset” the singer. She supposedly removed the underwear she was wearing at the spot, leaving staff members and customers in shock, and continued to try on the underwear in front of them. She continued to cause trouble. She supposedly stole a wig off the head of a mannequin. In 2008, she walked out of a Fred Segal wearing some $200 long-sleeved outfit that she “forgot” to buy. In December 2007, Spears allegedly stole a lighter from a gas station which price was $1.39.

Jake Gyllenhaal

Jake Gyllenhaal took a pair of the tight swim trunks as part of a prank at the Beverly Center mall in Los Angeles. Gyllenhaal supposedly walked into the Speedo shop, got into the bathing suit, and then walked out of the store wearing the bathing suit. “A friend of mine dared me actually,” he insisted. “I was arrested by the Beverly Center cops,” Gyllenhaal explained. “It was really serious for them; they don’t see much action. It was a big moment for all of us.”
