For the past few decades, the perfect look of a woman was seen as a slim figure and an hourglass body shape. And the TV and all kinds of ads supported that statement-making those women that have a few pounds above feel insecure and anxious. Along with that, the fashion was following that trend as well so famous brands weren’t making their clothing items in the plus sizes (above 14). Saying this, the women that needed the plus size couldn’t dress as they wanted and the society was posing certain norms on their clothing as well.

Certain colors (like black), no curves, no slim clothing and all the other norms that made women feel obligated and insecure to step out of those. And of course, even if one woman wanted to wear what all those missy women were wearing she couldn’t because the brand wasn’t producing adequate sizes. On top of all that it wasn’t a good business move either because chances are an American woman is likely to ask for size over 10 than 2 or 3. And that is absolutely fine, no one should decide on other looks and if one is satisfied and confident than she should be allowed to wear whatever she wants.

When we are talking about the USA, it is safe to say that nowadays the trends have changed and most of the clothing retail stores are selling their products in all possible sizes. And you know who is responsible for that? Well, the social media stars. We are all aware of the power of social media and what few how few influencers can have affect one whole industry. Saying this, a lot of the women social media stars like Ashley Graham, or Nabela Noor started talking about how they felt that the plus size clothing wasn’t diverse enough and how they think that all clothing items should be available in various sizes. With this, every woman would be able to wear what and how she likes.
And with this question becoming a point of debate, multiple brands realized that they would profit off this and started making their products size 14 and above. This indeed made more than a few brands like JC Penney and Torrid boost their revenue and now other more famous ones are following the path as well. Only to say, things are becoming far fairer, and with women being more confident about their looks it is a good thing for our society in general. Interesting information as well is that people are more interested in buying the plus size fashion and with each year that market is rising by at least a few percents. So don’t be all confused if you see a plus size woman rocking a crop – because why the hell not?
