Wired Alarms

These type of alarms are reliable and robust. They need to be set up by a professional and require a small amount of maintenance. The system only is not expensive, but having it installed is.

Wireless Alarms

Wireless alarms use battery-powered sensors that send radio signals to a control panel. Installing these type of alarms doesn’t require a professional, most of the people can do it. Since there are no wires, they tend to look nicer and setting them up and removing them is much easier comparing to wired alarms. Wireless alarms’ sensor batteries need replacing on a regular basis.

Bells-only Alarms

Once it is triggered, a bells-only alarm makes a loud noise, which may scare off an intruder, or alert someone who is nearby about the situation. These alarms are good for an active Neighbourhood Watch, or people with friendly neighbors. However, the police won’t be alerted by the alarm, unless you live near the police station. You can install this alarm without help from a professional.

Auto-dialler Alarms

Surveys show that only 12% of people who own an alarm have this type of it. Once the auto-dialler alarm is triggered, the dialler contacts the owner, or the owner’s nominated friends and family, after which they can contact the police or send someone to investigate the situation. With this alarm, you can programme a list of between three and ten phone numbers to be called when the alarm is triggered. Some of the more advanced auto-dialler alarms can alert you in case of fire or flood in your home. When this is combined CCTV, you are getting one all around system.

Monitored Alarms

These alarms require a professional for an installation and must conform to certain standards. There are two types: keyholder and police response. You need to pay a monthly or annual fee. Once the alarm is triggered, the receiving centre will contact your home’s landline and ask for password identification. In case the password is incorrect, or no one answers, it will either inform the keyholder or call the police.

Smart Alarms

Smart home-security systems allow you to control your security from your phone because they are connected to your smartphone or tablet. You can install the system by yourself, but the best option for you would be to hire a professional. There are a lot of extra components you can add to this system, including sensors, cameras, and lighting sockets that allow you to switch lights on and off no matter where you are.
