1. Find out what the market needs

In most cases, people start by looking for a product first, but to succeed you should look for a market first. Try to find people who are in a pinch, but not lucky with getting out of it, you can offer them a solution.

A good place to start searching is online forums, you can ask people directly. You also need to know how your competitors work and you can always learn from them and use it for your own gain. Use that knowledge to create something for an already existing market and do it better.

2. A proven sales formula

You can find a sales copy formula that enables you to efficiently take visitors through the selling process from the beginning to the end.

  1. Make people interested with an assuring title
  2. Be descriptive of what your product does
  3. Assure people that you are the right man for the job
  4. Have other people say how good your product is
  5. Make them think they have to buy it right now

3. Construct a website

To start an online business you definitely need a website, you need to make it eye-catching, people don’t need a lot of time to lose interest, but you can also grab their attention pretty fast.

  • It’s important to make it simple and easy to buy things on, which means no more than two clicks for the checkout
  • Minimalistic design with one or two fonts on a white background
  • The navigation needs to be simple to use

4. Google is your friend

Pay-per-click advertising using Google Adwords is the way to go, especially for a new website. Not only do you immediately get traffic to your online business but you get to learn which words cause more or less interest and use them throughout your website with your copy and code.

5. Having a good reputation

Information is the key. Providing information people search on other websites for free is a great way to bring more traffic to your online business and have more success with search engines. Try to fit in a link to your site in each piece of information.

Having good content for free goes a long way. Really any content that people would find useful and share it through social media sites.

Become someone who people can always rely on to give them correct and expert information in industry-related forums and social networking sites.

6. Email is your second best friend

Building an opt-in list means that your customers have given you permission to send them an email, which means that you’re doing something they want, you’re building a rapport with them, you always know what you’re getting from them, and it’s much cheaper than other marketing methods.

7. Back-end sales and upselling

The first sale is always the hardest and the most expensive one, but that means that it opens up a way for selling to the same customer again and at least 36 percent of people do that.

You should offer them products that go well together with their first purchase. Coupons are another great way to bring back customers. Show them you appreciate their loyalty.
