How to Extend the Life of Your Electric Skateboard Battery

Traffic can become one of the most frustrating things to go through after a busy day. For that reason, many people are looking for smart transportation ways to get their way around more efficiently. Besides all the other electrical options, electric skateboards have been the favorite of many individuals.

When you first purchase your electric skateboard, it is equipped with a battery that is efficient enough for daily use. With time, the battery gets used up, and you can reach a point where you leave your home fully charged and you can’t come back.

To leave these frustrations behind, we made this article with a couple of tips to extend the life of your skateboard’s battery. In addition, learn how to change your habits, and maintain the functionality of your transportation tool.

Contents

1. Do not expose it to high temperatures

The first way to prevent your battery to go bad is by keeping good thermodynamics. If the weather is too cold, it will begin to lose charge. In case the temperature is higher, your electric skateboard can become irreparable.

For that reason, you should ensure that you do not leave out your board to the weather conditions. Do not store it on your terrace, and especially prevent direct sun exposure. If you keep your skateboard inside and near room temperature, be sure that it will last longer.

2. Do not leave your board unused

Since you have bought this unit to be constantly used, we are sure you will not leave it unused. However, it is important to provide you details to see why is important. When you are using the electric skateboard, you have to charge it. This promotes battery health and ensures longevity in holding a charge.

When you leave your board unused, the battery gets no charge and it slowly depletes. Because of that, the next time you use your board, you will pass less distance which is an indicator of a battery turning bad.

However, if you need to store the board, there is a proper way of doing it. Instead of leaving the percentage, make sure to bring it to fifty since that is the optimal charge that extends the life of your electric skateboard.

3. Avoid using your board incorrectly

Another way to ruin your electric longboard is to drive it incorrectly. If the board withstands more load, it uses more power than expected so it damages the battery. For that reason, avoid driving the skate on uneven terrains, and especially be careful about the weight you put on it.

4. Purchase quality boards

When looking for a motorized electric longboard, ensure the quality of the battery that is currently installed. In addition, look for a warranty to ensure you are getting the item you wanted and that will benefit you for a long time.

Since these smart transportation tools are not a cheap thing, you should ensure to purchase them from an established place.

Additionally, when looking at quality boards, also check out at the battery capacity. For example, if you go to Lumbuy, you can see that models like the Maxfind FF have a 36V 6.0Ah Samsung battery which should last longer in terms of mile range and lifespan.

5. Create a frequent charging schedule

If you get a frequent charging schedule, you’ll surely improve the battery’s health. For that reason, whenever you take your electric longboard for commuting, or you do it for fun, charge it at the first spot available.

Even when you are steady on seventy percent, it is still advisable to top it up for ten to twenty percent depending on your time.

However, you need to be sure that you do not let it on the outlet until it reaches a hundred percent mark. This also does damage to your electric transportation method and is easily preventable by being disciplined with the charging frequency.

6. Prevent your battery from completely draining

The biggest mistake you can do is leaving your battery to get completely drained until you put it on a charger. This causes severe damage that can result in serious consequences to your electric skateboard that cannot be repaired.

In other words, if you constantly drain your electric board, it will not be able to hold a charge for long. This will result in a situation where you do not have enough power to come back home even after charging for a whole night. Such frustrations are not needed and can be easily prevented with a frequent charge.

If you need to take up a habit, it needs to be easily explained. Do not let your motorized electric longboard drop under twenty-five percent. Also, do not let it on the socket more than the ninety percent mark.

7. Clean the battery portion

After a long time of driving, you need to ensure the cleanliness of the board. Although you might notice dust and usual gunk getting build-up, that is not that much of a problem. However, if you notice orange changes on the battery or signs of corrosion, it is a direct indicator that you need to find a replacement.

To prevent rusting, avoid intentional rain drives. Even though most electric longboard producers state they are resistant to water, there is still a risk.

8. Find a good place for storage

When the driving season ends, you need to find a good place for your electric board. For that reason, we prepared a little guide for you to ensure longevity and preserve the battery life.

As mentioned above, bring the battery to around fifty percent because that is the best range for inactive devices. The board needs to be placed somewhere dry where the room temperature is guaranteed. After a while, be sure to take it out for a ride, and recharge it again.

That way, you will be sure that your board is prepared for another driving season, and will not leave you without power any time soon.

9. Find a replacement battery

In case the board begins to die on you, you have to find a replacement battery. They are usually sold from the manufacturers, so make sure you are being in touch to quickly purchase one if needed. In case they do not sell this product anymore, they can provide alternatives to ensure a good driving experience.
