Sixteen years after its initial release, Sisqó has explained the “Thong Song” lyrics, and the world is now heaped with the blessing of the backstory behind this iconic pop gem. While the lyrical content of the song is mostly straightforward, as Sisqó is praising the glories of thongs and informing women of the deep well of thong-related desire in his heart, the particular phrase “dumps like a truck” has caused much speculation in the Sisqó-loving community. While most people assumed it was a parallel sentiment to “junk in the trunk,” the use of the word “dumps” in close relation to the butt and constricting underwear left many wondering exactly what he was getting at.
Luckily, for those of us still pondering the flutter of artistry that inspired such wording, an interview at The Huffington Post revealed his vision behind the booty anthem, which apparently wasn’t meant to reference poop. He said: “That would mean I was some kind of fecal freak. What I was really referring to was — a dump truck when it backs up, it’s like, ‘beep, beep beep.’ So, ‘she had dumps like a dump truck’ is, like, when girls do a booty dance move and they look back at their butt. She’s like a dump truck back-back-backing it up.”
So, that settles the long heralded dispute. Sisqó is in fact not a fecal freak (wait what), but instead had a very detailed vision in which a booty dance parallels a dump truck.
While many pop stars who rose to fame as quickly as Sisqó were surprised by their success, the singer revealed in the interview that he had a feeling this song would take off. He said:
“Fast forward 16 years later, and when you listen to it, you open up a time capsule. I was thinking about that when I made it. That’s why we use those classical strings in the beginning. Much like the Renaissance period of art and music — that music and art is still appreciated today.”
In keeping with Sisqó’s vision, the thong has been immortalized to the level of Renaissance art, so his attempt proved successful.
