It’s true that makeup is pure art but, hey, you can master it with just the right tools, makeup products, and a little bit of practice. From being confused between a concealer and a highlighter to religiously following all the makeup trends, every makeup aficionado was once a beginner.

For all the makeup newbies, we thought of going back to the basics. Here’s a step-by-step makeup guide that would help you to work better and in the right way with your makeup product from Chicsta.

Cleansing & Toning

Cleansing & Toning are the crucial steps that you must incorporate into your daily skincare regime. Start by cleaning your face with a cleanser that suits best for your skin type. Follow up with aloe or rose-based toner and wait for some time before proceeding. You can also use any toner of your choice.

Moisturising

Before going for the complicated products, prep your skin using a moisturiser. The moisturisers are available in different forms and, you can choose anyone that seems right for you.

Face Mists: These are water-based products that work like a dose of instant freshness to your skin. You can use it multiple times a day to gain a dewy and flawless look.

Serums: Well, a gift from the Koreans, as we call it! It’s a lightweight solution easily absorbed by the skin.

Lotions: If you have an oily skin type, lotions will work excellently for you.

Creams: Creams have a thicker consistency than lotions and, it’s perfect for combination or dry skin types.

FaceOils: If you have extremely dry skin, face oils are a blessing for you.

You can pick any of the above moisturisers (according to your skin type) and start by taking a pea-sized amount of it between your fingers.

Work from the center towards the outside and massage gently. Don’t miss any area of your face and, let it dry naturally before proceeding.

Primer

The next step is to prep your skin using a primer. Most of us tend to skip using primers but, it’s not a good idea to do that. Having a smooth and clear canvas before applying makeup is necessary else, your makeup might end up looking too cakey and messed up.

Primers work wonderfully over your skin by filling up all the pores and evening out the skin texture. If you want your makeup to last longer, grab a primer and start with a dime-sized amount of it in the center of your face. Work slowly towards your cheeks, ears, and neck.

You can even use an eye primer at sensitive areas like eyelids and under eyes.

Liquid Foundation

Well, choosing the right foundation shade for yourself is half the battle won. Once you select the ideal shade for yourself, apply it using your fingers inside-out for light coverage. If you wish to have full coverage, use a foundation brush or a beauty blender. Remember, a small amount goes a long way.

Apply the foundation in a dotted pattern for even and smooth spreading.

The next step is to buff your foundation. You can either use a damp sponge for buffing or a buffing brush to do the same.

Concealer

Even after applying foundation, some of the irregularities might show up and, that is when you need a concealer. Use a concealer to hide fine lines, wrinkles, dark circles, acne spots, or pigmentation.

Concealers are available in tubes, sticks, as well as tiny bottles. You can choose any one of them as it doesn’t make any difference. But, picking up the right coloured concealer is the whole trick.

Follow the colour wheel to pick complimentary concealer for your face irregularities. Even if you don’t have any visible flaws on your skin, apply concealer in dotted fashion horizontally over the centre of your forehead, down the centre of your nose, under your eyes, in a curving arch at the top of your chin, and just under your bottom lip.

Once done, blend it using a concealing brush and top up with some of the setting powder.

Foundation Powder/Setting Powder

Use a brush with large fluffy bristles to dab foundation powder over your face. You can use loose powder, compact powder, or a foundation powder to do the same.

But, you need to use the exact amount as, too less will make you look pale while too much will give you a cakey look. Work thoroughly using the brush and make sure you get a smooth texture.

Bronzer

If you want the sun-kissed tanned look, bronzers will do that for you. Always use a bronzer that’s two shades darker than your skin tone. There’s a trick behind applying it. Mark a huge ‘3’ on either side of your face with a bronzer. Start from the forehead up to your chin and covering the jawline in between.

Use a bronzer brush to blend in the product for a perfect finish.

Blush

Every woman loves to have flushed cheeks and, it adds elegance to your overall look. Blushes come in sticks, creamy textures, or powders and, you can use any of them according to your choice.

Choose any shade of the blush that you like and work on the apples of your cheeks with a blush brush.

Highlighter

Adding a little bit of glow to your look is all you need to finish off your makeup. Highlighters come in as powders, sticks, or creams. Feel free to choose whichever you like.

However, you need to apply it to specific areas such as, down the bridge of your nose, in the inner corners of your eyelids, on your brow bone, above your Cupid’s bow, across the tops of your cheekbones, the centre of your forehead, and the centre of your chin.

Blend the highlighter using a highlighter brush or a beauty blender.

Eyeshadow

Once you are done with the face, head over to your eyes.

There’s no specific pattern that you should follow while applying the eyeshadow. You can pick any colour and get started with an eyeshadow brush.

There are creamy as well as powdered eyeshadows available in the market and, you can pick any one of them.

Kohl/Eyeliner

Use Kohl on your lower waterline and eyeliner on your eyelids. Kohl has a creamy texture while eyeliner can be gel-based or crayon based. There are different patterns in which you can apply the liner and, it comes right only with practice and patience.

It’s okay to go wrong and repeat the drill all over again because this will only make you a perfectionist.

Mascara

The easiest step of all is to apply mascara over your lashes. Even a single stroke of mascara can change your overall look. If you wish to add a little bit of glam and an extra bit of oomph to your lashes, mascara is the only product you would ever need.

Apply mascara over your lashes and twirl them a bit to get larger and fuller eyes.

Lip Gloss/Lip Balm

Head over to your next stop: Lips. Start by applying lip balm over your lips to cover irregularities. Chapped and dry lips often lead to cakey lipstick, therefore, make them even and smooth using a lip balm.

You can either use transparent lip balm or a tinted one depending upon your choice.

Lipstick

Top up with lipstick of any colour you like. Lipsticks can be liquid, matte, glossy, or creamy but, you need to follow the same drill to apply them flawlessly.

Start by lining your lips with a lip liner and make a cross over your Cupid’s bow and lower lip line. Fill in using the lipstick for a perfect finishing look.

Brow Powder

If you want to define your eyebrows and make them look fuller, grab a brow powder. You can use it to fill in the gaps and shape the eyebrows perfectly.

Setting Spray

The last step is to set your makeup using a setting spray. It makes your makeup last long despite sweating, pollution, and greasing. Use a few spritzes of a setting spray while keeping it about 8 inches away from your face.

For full coverage, first, spritz in an ‘X’ shape across your face, and then follow it up by spraying in a ‘T’ shape.

That’s it! Yeah, we know that looks a lot but, trust us, you will get accustomed to all of these makeup products with a little bit of practice and patience. Once you are pro at it, you can even experiment and choose that suits you the best.

We hope this guide will prove useful to you the next time when you are doing makeup. Don’t forget to shop online the makeup products at discounted rates.
