1. Garment Bags

If you have designer garments and dresses, then you should store them in the right storage paper and bags. You may wish to use long garment bags for dresses, which will cover the entirety of your dress. This will prevent any creases from forming, as you won’t have to fold the dress. Then you can easily hang the dress in your closest so that it keeps its shape.

However, if you don’t want to hang the dress up you could fold the dresses carefully and place them in proper storage containers. Between each garment you can use garment and storage paper. Then when you wish to wear the dress again you should remove it from the container at least 24 hours prior and allow it time to hang up to drop any creases out.

When it comes to storage materials whether this is boxes or bags you want to ensure they are constructed from a breathable material such as muslin. In addition, any paper you use should be acid free. This will help to keep your designer dresses as safe as possible and prevent anything from getting inside to damage the dress.

2. Ensure Your Dresses Are Clean

While you need to think about where you will be storing your designer dresses. You also need to consider the condition of the designer dresses as well.

The last thing you want to do is store your designer clothes next to clothes that are dirty. Even clothes that may seem clean can still contain deodorant stains, body oils and perfume. As a result, we wouldn’t advise that you store your clean garments with dirty ones. Since, these odors could easily transfer over to your dresses.

When you are planning to store your designer dresses, you want to ensure they are properly clean before placing them into our closest or other storage options. Since these designer dresses are so special, often it is better to get them dried and cleaned, to ensure they are cleaned properly. At a dry cleaning establishment, they will have a better understanding on how to handle and wash luxury clothing.

Thus, once you know they are clean, then you can store them with other clean items.

3. Dry And Dark Places

If you have plenty of space, then we would recommend that you store your designer dresses in a dry, airy and dark environment. However, this is not always possible. As a result, you may have to keep your designer clothing in a confined area like a closet corner.

Open the doors frequently and allow the clothes to “breathe” if it applies to you. Additionally, avoid storing your clothing in plastic bags because even dry-cleaning bags can trap gasses and stain clothing.

It is also worth mentioning that no matter how you store your dresses, whether this is in a storage box or in a bag, the items inside need to be allowed to breathe. This is why muslin is advised, as it is a breathable material, which prevents the issues mentioned above.

4. No Wire Hangers

Wire hangers are really common, but they should be avoided for your designer dresses, as they will only harm the garment. When it comes to wire hangers, they can easily rust which will then transfer onto your clothing and could stain the garments.

As a result, instead of wire hangers, we would advise you purchase wooden or velvet hangers. These two types of hangers will keep your dresses safe and protected.

There is no denying that velvet hangers are much better than wooden hangers. Yet, if you must choose wooden hangers we suggest finding a high quality one. This is so that the wood doesn’t leave any splinters in your garment which would damage it as well.

5.  Use Acid Tissue Paper

We briefly mentioned tissue paper above, but this simple paper can help to keep your garments safe and in shape. You can use acid free tissue paper, to provide extra security and care to any decorative elements or embellishments on your dress. This is to prevent these areas by catching on anything, which could then lead to the dresses getting torn.

In addition to this, if you have a designer dress with a particular design, you can stuff the sleeves and bodice with this paper. This would be great with any dress that has large, puffy sleeves. By doing this it allows you to keep the dress’s shape, and protect the dress at the same time.

It is vital that you use acid free paper, to prevent any chemicals transferring onto the dresses, which could damage them.

Final Thoughts

Designer dressers can come with a high price tag, therefore, when you are not wearing these garments you want to ensure that they are stored properly. By following the methods we have mentioned above, your designer dresses will be safe and are ready for you to wear at your next event.

It is important that you properly wash the dresses before placing them into any kind of storage. You should place these garments in breathable storage bags or containers, which will keep them safe, but prevent any orders or mold from forming.

We hope this article has been helpful and by following these steps you will be able to store your designer dresses with ease.
