Streetwise Clothing in 2024

Streetwear initially started off at the skate parks, wear loose baggy clothes were the fashion for those who skated. Now it’s a certified part of mainstream fashion, as the youth-culture trend has generated higher demand for streetwear style.

‘Streetwear’ was a welcome fashion trend after it was so long dictated that polished looks were what was deemed appropriate for the public. Fundamentally streetwear affected the society of people, as people started accepting wearing sneakers and sweatpants to work as long as they are brand names.

It seems natural to pull streetwear off, and in theory, it is, but its important at least to understand how to do it first.

Here are a few ways you can go for the streetwear style and also make it your own:

Contents

  • Oversized is the first pillar
  • Logo it Up
  • Begin with your trousers
  • White sneakers all the way
  • Sweatpants interpreted however you want
  • Luxe cotton shirts
  • Don’t model your look after others, wear what YOU like and you look good in
  • For the winter, invest in a big puffer coat
  • “Dad Sneakers”
  • Try a translucent windbreaker

The ‘oversized’ factor of your look is the first pillar of your look, but while you have some wiggle room within this, you don’t want to go too oversized. You want your pieces to be oversized for that fresh casual look, but that you don’t lose yourself in. Think loose, but not baggy. After all, you can still see your figure in loose clothes without getting completely overwhelmed and hidden with baggy clothes.

Both high end and the high street have options for all types of fits, including slim fits and straight-leg shapes that you can choose according to your body shape, style, and comfort.

Logo it Up

Logos have been a big part of the streetwear style, and opting for a brand that suits you is all a part of this. Brand loyalty is a significant factor in determining which brands will make it in terms of streetwear style over the years, so standing behind and representing the companies you appreciate is all in part of how you ‘logo it up’. One of the best street-approved brands is Off-White, especially the men’s collection that’s super hot right now- it can be discovered on popular sites such as Luisaviaroma.com. Leave it to Virgil Abloh for being a trusted go-to for the modern man’s wardrobe.

Begin with your trousers

You want to start your streetwear look with your pants. Once you pick the kind of bottoms you want to go for, whether they are short shorts, basketball shorts, or sweatpants, you can then work around it. If you wish to opt for a logo, casual, or cropped top can depend on the pants you choose and the level of ‘effortless’ streetwear you want to go for.

White sneakers all the way

White sneakers are an essential part of the streetwear and athleisure trends. They are a classic shoe option that pairs well with these styles, as well as with more polished looks such as a suit combination. While there are many trendy streetwear shoe styles, the white sneaker is a way to add a classic element to your outfit and dial things back. Worried about it getting dirty? Thank goodness usually, they are pretty easy to clean!

Sweatpants interpreted however you want

Sweatpants are probably the most comfortable part of streetwear and can give your outfit the ‘cool’ factor. Style them with one leg up, both down, zipped, unzipped, it doesn’t matter. The oversized and the fitted sweatpants are in, and it is a trend we are happy to see!

Luxe cotton shirts

Luxe cotton shirts are comfortable, breathable, and when you find the right fit, the most comfortable option to reach for and pair with any outfit. Organic cotton is even better as it is more sustainable for the environment, and you’ll feel better about your clothes selection too!

Don’t model your look after others, wear what YOU like and you look good in

Trends are trends, but being streetwear cool does NOT mean that you have to follow what the millennials are wearing or wear something that does not feel as though it suits you and your style. There is a lot of flexibility with streetwear, so have fun playing with what items best suit your personal style and make you feel your best. This may mean wearing a luxe cotton shirt, fitted jeans, sneakers, and your favorite coat or going all out with style. you have a lot to choose from with this style!

For the winter, invest in a big puffer coat

A big puffer coat is a staple in any wardrobe, and with the classic streetwear style, we see puffer coats go even more significant in size. This is a great excuse to bundle up for the cold weather and maybe also have some more fun with the layers you choose to wear underneath. With the added element of the outdoor gear to streetwear, a big puffer coat is now considered cool and stylish rather than clunky. Brands such as Balenciaga and Moncler have their time to shine outside of the ski slopes and not just being associated with fashion or mountain gear.

“Dad Sneakers”

‘Dads’ had the right idea when it came to sneakers. Dad sneakers have become extremely popular over the last couple of years, with brand names such as Gucci revamping the Dad shoe as a more fashionable bulky sneaker. Try out the Dad sneaker in any color or style that best suits the rest of your wardrobe and style, and your feet will be happy to have a comfortable yet stylish option!

Try a translucent windbreaker

A windbreaker is that extra piece that can mess with your outfit if you choose a solid piece that hides what you are wearing underneath that is. So try a translucent windbreaker to let your gear still show and to show off any brands or parts that you’d like to keep the focus on. Practical pieces can always be stylish! Translucent materials and parts, in general, have had their time to shine with streetwear, from translucent bags, luggage sets, jackets, and more. Just be sure to stick with a simple palette and neutral colors for your outfit!

Even if Virgil Abloah said ‘streetwear’ is on the verge of ending. It will never end because it is one of the most comfortable trends to come about in recent years, and many brands grew up with this identity.
