Minnesota also referred to as “The North Star State”, “The State of Hockey”, “The Land of 10.000 Lakes”, and “The Gopher State”, offers some of the most beautiful places to visit and sights to see.

Outdoor activities include fishing and sailing, gold, and some of the best bike trails that the country has to offer. There are various museums of all types, galleries, and there are also options to attend live theater. You will be able to visit numerous breweries, wineries, and distilleries that are all open for tastings and tours. One of the most-visited attraction is probably the Mall of America.

1. Split Rock Lighthouse

This lighthouse is often depicted as one of the most picturesque lighthouses in America, and it is understandable why that is the case. This lighthouse, which is a little bit over 100 years old is located south-west of the Silver Bay and it was named as a National Historic Landmark. After it became “retired” in 1969, it became the central point of the Split Rock Lighthouse State Park. It has been featured on stamps and it was also featured in the 2013 movie adaptation of “The Great Gatsby”. There are guided tours that are available for this sight.

2. Lake Itasca

This lake might be small, but it is the headwaters of the Mississippi River and is one of the most significant natural locations in Minnesota. It is located in the Clearwater County and it houses the University of Minnesota’s Itasca Biological Station, as well as the campus laboratories. The lase is popular with people who love fishing, as well as sailing. People who decide to visit Lake Itasca will have a lot to do and see at this location, which is one of the oldest parks in this state.

3. Minnehaha Falls

This has to be one of the most accessible waterfalls in Minnesota, and it can be found on the grounds of Minnehaha Park. The waterfalls can be found near the Minnehaha Creek, close to the junction of the creek with the Mississippi River, near Fort Snelling. Every year, close to one million people visit these falls, and it is one of the most photographed places in Minnesota. They are over 50 feet tall and are the theme of Longfellow’s “Song of Hiawatha”.

The biggest city in Minnesota, Minneapolis is one of the places that all people need to see if they are visiting this state for the first time. One of the most popular things to do is to visit theaters since there are various and numerous shows to enjoy. Minneapolis has a strong cultural history and visitors can visit the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the Minnehaha Park, Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, and the Basilica of St. Mary. The Skyway system is quite useful in order to get around the city, especially if the weather is not good.

5. St. Paul’s Cathedral

The Saint Paul Cathedral is one of the most beautiful buildings that you can visit in the whole state of Minnesota. The characteristic copper dome of the building makes it one of the most recognizable cathedrals in the US. The cathedral, which is one of the best examples of Beaux-Arts architecture can be compared to the greatest cathedrals in Europe. It is usually open seven days a week and is listed as a landmark on the National Register of Historic Buildings.
