TMZ brought tears to everyone’s eyes Tuesday by reporting the most beloved Hollywood couple is splitting. Are Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie really getting divorced, though? Rumors had been swirling about the couple for months, and now their troubles seem to have come to light.
Jolie reportedly filed the papers Monday “citing irreconcilable differences.” Sources told TMZ Jolie asked for custody of Brangelina’s six children and decided to leave her husband because of his parenting methods, wanting him to only have visitation with Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 8. Despite previous rumblings that Jolie was jealous of Pitt and another woman, it seems to be purely about the kids. TMZ reports Jolie wasn’t having Pitt’s weed and alcohol use mixed with an alleged “anger problem.”
According to the Associated Press, a lawyer confirmed Tuesday that Jolie filed the divorce papers. She reportedly listed the date of separation as Sept. 15, 2016 (just after their two-year wedding anniversary) and isn’t asking for spousal support. She is being represented by Laura Wasser, a partner at the family law firm Wasser, Cooperman & Mandles known for dealing with high-profile celeb divorces in L.A. It’s unclear who’s representing Pitt or if he even has representation yet.
Unfortunately, it looks like this is really happening. Geyer Kosinski, Jolie’s longtime manager, told E! News in a statement Tuesday: “Angelina will always do what’s in the best interest of taking care of her family. She appreciates everyone’s understanding of their need for privacy at this time.”
The couple was last seen together in July getting breakfast for Knox and Vivienne’s birthday in West Hollywood.
Brangelina has been a part of everyone’s Hollywood obsession since 2004, when they first got together, so it’s a sad day for the nation. The couple’s 12-year run as Brangelina, couple envied by millions, has come to an end.
