The whole wide entertainment world seemed to stop Tuesday when news broke that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were divorcing. There were rumors of an affair and the usual Hollywood gossip, but now that Brad Pitt is reportedly being investigated for child abuse, it sounds like there might have been more trouble in their paradise than anyone imagined. People reports that the LAPD and the L.A. Department of Child Services are investigating the actor for an alleged incident that happened on board the family’s plane last week, which would explain why the divorce came as sort of a surprise. According to TMZ, Pitt got drunk on the plane and allegedly “went wild, screaming and getting physical with the kids.” TMZ’s sources allege Pitt was still on a rampage on the tarmac when the plane landed and “even tried leaving in one of the fuel trucks.”
Someone anonymously reported the incident from either the plane or the tarmac to the L.A. Department of Child Services. Pitt and Jolie have reportedly already been interviewed and the kids will be soon. A source told TMZ about Pitt, “He takes the matter very seriously and says he did not commit any abuse of his children. It’s unfortunate that people involved are continuing to present him in the worst possible light.”
Jolie’s divorce filings ask for full physical custody of their six children and asks to only allow Pitt visitation rights and some legal custody. Jolie has released a statement saying she won’t be commenting on the divorce at this time but that she filed for divorce for the “health of the family.” Her attorney told E! News, “Angelina will always do what’s in the best interest of taking care of her family. She appreciates everyone’s understanding of their need for privacy at this time.”
Pitt, too, made a similar statement to People saying, “I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.” TMZ reported earlier in the week that Jolie was “fed up” with Pitt’s drinking, marijuana usage, and an alleged “anger problem.” The official date of separation on Jolie’s divorce papers is Sept. 15, which lines up with this alleged private plane rampage and LAPD investigation.
As much as I love gossip rags, everyone should remember that “anonymous sources” might not know jackshit about what happened between Brangelina. Let’s hope one of them does an exclusive with Vogue or Vanity Fair soon, though, because I’m dying to fucking know.
