5 ways to make your eyes not red, even though you haven’t slept all week oh well

We’ve all had mornings when we woke up looking like we’d smoked all of the weed on the planet and either we don’t even smoke weed, or we still don’t want to look like we did, so how do you make your eyes look less red? Well, here are some options.

It’s important to first note that your eye redness could be a sign of something more serious like glaucoma or (ew) pink eye, so if you’re really worried about your eyes looking like stop signs, talk to your doctor like, now.

That said, The Vision Council says your literal heart emoji eyes could also be caused by not sleeping enough, having anything irritating your eyes (contacts, make-up, crying), staring at a computer for too long (hello, me right now), or simply being dehydrated could cause red eyes.

1. Take off your freaking eye make-up. Obviously, anything that causes your eyes to be irritated or dry is not doing you any favors, so the least you can do for your eyes is remove all the awesome but irritating crap you put on them today. Promise Organic and DERMA E make some good (and natural!) make-up removing wipes if you are so lazy you can’t even deal with adding water.

2. Put some tea bags on them like a fancy lady in a movie. A lot of people recommend putting cooled green or herbal tea bags over your eyes to help with inflammation and redness (and a bunch of fancy movie characters can’t be wrong about that). This Kusmi tea has lavender and rose, which both smell like a freaking romcom in a cup, but if you put them in tea bags could help soothe your heart eyes like whoa.

3. Wear your glasses instead of your contacts because your glasses are cute. Taking a break from contacts is basically like taking off your bra, but for your eyes. Plus, wearing your contacts too long can cause clogged tear ducts, which prevents you from having enough lubrication for your eyes to keep them from turning red. So switch to glasses for a bit and see if that helps.

4. Take a freaking nap. One of the things that happens when you sleep (sleep? what is sleep?) is your body recharges and heals itself, so if you’re not doing that, your eyes (and the rest of your body) are like “Huh? Why do you hate us?” Even taking a quick nap right now might help your eyes be like, “Oh, OK. We remember how to be not red. Let’s do that.” And if you need a napping companion, the Yarrow Lavender Sweet Dreams Mask from Florapy is a good thing to add to your relaxation sitch.

5. Take a break from using your computer like it’s a part of your body. We’re all guilty of this, I know, but it doesn’t mean your eyes aren’t dying right now because you won’t stop staring at this screen. For one thing, the more you stare at a computer, the less you blink, which dries out your eyes. So either start blinking like a weirdo while you’re reading everything on our site, or take a break and come back later. You can do this. I believe in you and your weirdly red eyes.
