9 weird ways to know you’re falling in love that aren’t the usual bullshit you see in movies

In the movies, falling in love usually goes like this. “Hi, nice to meet you.” “Nice to meet you!” “Wow, we have like three things in common.” “And most of them are about stuff that doesn’t matter!” “I love you.” “I love you!”

It literally makes zero sense but we’re all taught this is the coolest, chillest, most normal way to know if you’re in love. Do you like each other sort of? You’re in love! Have you been on like two very good dates? You’re in love! Have you thought about not going on another date with them, but then you realized you would like to go on another date with them? IT’S LOVE!!!

So what are some weird ways to know if you’re in love (because the way they show it in movies is kind of bullshit)? While it’s different for everyone — some of these signs might make some people want to vomit and others will be like yessss — there are a few ways to tell if you’re at very least on your way to falling in love with this dreamy new human you just met and are liking more and more. Here are a few of those reasons.

Contents

  • Wherever you are, you know it’d be way more fun if they were there
  • Sacrifices you always hated making now seem like NBD things to give up
  • You find yourself talking about the future and matter-of-factly imagining them in it
  • You don’t even think about inviting them to stuff anymore because you already know they’d love to go.
  • You say you miss them and you actually mean it.
  • You never worry about them ghosting
  • They are so annoying and you’re still like “yay”
  • You don’t even think about your ex anymore and you almost always think about your ex
  • You’re your weirdest self around them

Wherever you are, you know it’d be way more fun if they were there

Whether you’re at the most fun party of your whole life or the most boring nonsense DMV visit ever, you know both would be the most fun ever if they were there, simple as that. That’s so rare!

Sacrifices you always hated making now seem like NBD things to give up

If you’re really tied to a routine or a regimen (hello, yoga 6x a week), but you’re more than happy to blow it off so you can meet their friends or go to their work event, like, wow. You’ve altered your routine for a totally other human being. Who are you now?! In love, probably.

You find yourself talking about the future and matter-of-factly imagining them in it

It’s not like you’re trying to imagine them in it, they’re just in all of your hopes and dreams now. They just are. If your person seems like an inevitable part of the rest of your life, yeah, odds are you’re heading that way.

You don’t even think about inviting them to stuff anymore because you already know they’d love to go.

Once you get to the point where you don’t feel weird about asking them to go do stuff with you, or wonder if they’ll like it, and instead just know that obviously they’re coming because obviously you want them there and obviously they want to be there, you’re so in.

You say you miss them and you actually mean it.

What the shit is this? Usually you just say that because you feel like you should but now you actually miss their presence when it’s not there? And it’s like, nearly painful? Ew = love stuff.

You never worry about them ghosting

For most of the courtship process, it’s totally normal to be constantly terrified that they’re gonna just stop texting back, especially if they go long periods without texting, which is hell for almost all humans. Once you can have them go all day without texting you back, or even more than one day, you know you’re building trust in them to be there for you, which is, you know, a very lovable thing.

They are so annoying and you’re still like “yay”

I mean, ideally they wouldn’t have any crappy qualities that occasionally irk you, but also if they can irk you and you’re still like “they’re so greaaaat,” that’s a lovely sign.

You don’t even think about your ex anymore and you almost always think about your ex

Unless you’re like super healthy or haven’t had a Great Love yet, you probably always kind of compare your partners to that one person who really bowled you over. But if you don’t even think about your ex anymore because your current person is laughably better, you know you’re with someone special.

You’re your weirdest self around them

You know the one I’m talking about. It’s the one you are when you’re around close family members or lifelong friends or your long-suffering (and also adoring) roommate. If you feel totally comfortable being cranky and goofy and not making sense and saying weirdo stuff and doing weirdo things and not censoring yourself because you think you might scare them, that’s some love-type shit right there.
