When you earn a fortune from your day job, there are many things you can do with the money; buy a house, buy fast cars, fly on private jets and visit a casino. If you spend any amount of time in the world’s biggest and best casinos, you are sure to run into some famous faces. Celebs enjoy placing a bet just as much as the rest of us, but usually with a lot more money!
Some celebrities are well-known to frequent the casinos of Las Vegas and Monte Carlo, but some like to keep a low profile. Take a look at our list of 5 of the biggest celebs who seem to love casinos and gambling.
1. Tiger Woods
First up, we have Eldrick Woods, better known as Tiger, and is arguably the greatest golfer of all time. He’s been lucky enough to play golf at a time when the PGA Tour has been dishing out vast sums of prize money, and he’s certainly taken advantage of that. In his prime, he was a winning machine and routinely picked up a big paycheque every time he played on the tour.
But he wasn’t just competing on the golf course; he was also trying his luck in the casinos of Las Vegas regularly. According to the biography ‘Tiger Woods’ released by Jeff Benedict and Armen Keteyian in 2018, Tiger spent an awful lot of time in the casinos of Vegas with his fellow Nike athlete and friend Michael Jordan. He certainly did like a gamble but was also rumored to be there for other reasons, namely strippers and alcohol.
There’s no doubt that Tiger was a man who loved to chance his arm at the casino, but it seems as he’s got older he’s not been spotted there as much. If you’re ever near the high-roller tables in Las Vegas, keep an eye out.
2. Sunny Leone
Karenjit Kaur Vohra, better known as Sunny Leone, is one of the most searched people on Google in India. She made her name in adult entertainment before progressing on to acting in Bollywood films. More recently, though, according to this review by Lucky Dice, Sunny Leone has become the brand ambassador for an Indian Online Casino called Jeetwin. They’ve even created a slot game featuring her, called ‘Bollywood Diva’.
Sunny Leone has spent a lot of time in and around casinos while fulfilling her role as a brand ambassador for Jeetwin. Admittedly much of her work is done online, but there are several videos of her acting as a croupier and dealing cards.
3. Charlie Sheen
Charlie Sheen, a man synonymous with controversy and indulging in some of the more beautiful things in life. He is probably best known for his star role in American television sitcom Two and a Half Men, which won several awards over ten years. In 2010, he was the highest-paid TV actor, reportedly earning $1.8 million per episode of the show.
According to his ex-wife Denise Richards, Mr. Sheen has always loved to gamble and spent a lot of time in casinos betting on both sports and table games. It’s reported he used to spend up to $20k a month on sports betting. But when you’re earning $1.8 million for filming a TV episode then maybe that’s not that much!
4. Floyd Mayweather
At number 4 we have another somewhat controversial character in the form of Floyd Mayweather Jr. He’s known for being one of the greatest boxers ever to live, but also for unashamedly flashing his cash to his millions of followers on social media. During his boxing career, he earned ridiculous sums of money for bouts against the world’s best boxers, but most recently for facing up against the MMA fighter Connor McGregor. Mayweather predictably won the fight easily, but in the process reportedly earned up to $275 million!
Famously Floyd Mayweather can’t read and write, but he doesn’t seem to have any problem tweeting the large bets he has on American sports. If you take a look at his Twitter profile, you’ll see a fair few pictures of him with briefcases full of cash, which he’s won in casinos.
5. Michael Jordan
Last but not least, we have Michael Jordan, one of the greatest sportsmen ever to live. In his career, Jordan was seen gracing the floors of NBA courts around America, but also the casino floors in Las Vegas. As we mentioned earlier, he was spotted on numerous occasions with his pal Tiger Woods, whom he reportedly led astray in Las Vegas.
Many sportsmen report that they miss the rush of professional competition and need to replace it with another hobby. Much of the time, this hobby is playing games for real money in a casino or placing a sports bet. They get a similar rush of adrenaline when the Roulette wheel spins as to when they are playing sport at the highest level. In Michael Jordan’s case, this was Basketball, but now he’s retired. Maybe you’ll see him in the casinos of Las Vegas more often.
After reading about the five celebs in this article, it becomes apparent that all of them have led incredibly successful but also controversial careers. If you group them all, then you have a massive list of controversies involving infidelity, drug use, and adult entertainment.
One argument as to why these celebs enjoy playing casino games is that they lead incredibly stressful lives and use this as a time to relax. Invariably time in a casino also involves spending time with friends or associates and having a few drinks. This leads to a relaxing evening with a bit of fun and excitement added.
Maybe if these celebs don’t want to be spotted, they’ll consider playing online casino rather than spending time in a land-based one. Good luck to them. Though, they’re as entitled to spend cash on a roll of the dice or a spin of the wheel like the rest of us.
