The dangerous Coronavirus has spread all around America, so the government took the needed actions. People should stay at home, and all the restaurants and schools are closed. Information about the spread of the virus and new measurements are available everywhere in the media, including social media platforms.
However, the Amish community wasn’t aware of the pandemic. Mary Swander lives close to the community and started communication with one of her neighbors. Apparently, they were unaware of how the situation with the Coronavirus was serious.

“They had a vague inkling about it, but they were kind of making a joke out of it. And that’s what got me really concerned, because without TV, radio, internet, they wouldn’t know how bad it is,” – added Swander.
Living amongst them, she could see their children riding a bike and playing, unaware of the distance they should maintain.
“They’re a very communal culture, so they have these large gatherings, especially weddings and funerals. And they have church in their homes, so they might have like 200 people in their house for church or their barn or their basement,” – Swander said.
The retired professor Mary made copies of the latest information about the virus, and she put those in the mailboxes of the Amish families.

But she didn’t stop there as the professor of Iowa also contacted the authorities who warned one of the priests about the hygiene of hands and avoiding contact with other people.
Thanks to the Swander, the Amish community is now aware of the new Coronavirus, and they are taking all the necessary steps to stop the spreading of the virus.
