Beauty Test Drive: Boscia Luminizing Black Mask

It’s Boscia, not blackface. Boscia’s done some amazing marketing because the instant I saw this on the shelf at Sephora, I had to have it. A peel-off mask that’s as thick as tar? I imagined it pulling off my entire face to reveal what I always knew was lying below: Scarlett Johansson. Sadly, that did not happen. But, I was pretty happy with the results. Boscia’s mask promises to boost “…skin clarity and radiance. Removes dirt and impurities while refining the look of pores.” This is a mineral-rich mask made of premium clay that will strip away excess oil and naturally exfoliate.

To get the best results, you’ve got to leave this on for the full 20 minutes the bottle advises, and sometimes even longer. If the goop is not fully dry, it won’t come off the right way. But when it does, it definitely pulls off some residue that’s reminiscent of what you get with Biore strips. Skin will definitely feel tighter, and the pores around my nose and cheeks did look smaller. That said, there are a few caveats. Don’t use this product if you have any type of zit you’ve picked and is healing. I did this and it ripped off some dead skin that exposed the wound again. Also, avoid eyebrows and hairline. This stuff is a biotch to get out of hair. But otherwise, I’m a fan of this product. It might not be the number-one effective treatment out there (uh, if you’ve found it, call us now), but the fun factor gets extra points. [$34, Sephora]
