In an appearance on the “Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend” podcast, Richard Pryor’s widow, Jennifer Lee Pryor, took a moment to address the Bill Cosby rape scandal. She did not hold back or mince words in any fashion, and it’s pretty damned awesome.
“On that note, I’d like to address the whole Bill Cosby thing. Richard was dirty on the outside, but he was a good person. He was clean on the inside. Bill? Fuck. Clean–oh, clean. He hated Richard, because Richard worked dirty; Bill worked clean. … Bill’s just a fucking hypocrite, and dirty on the inside… It was a well-kept secret that Bill fucked everything that moved. This kind of shit that we’re finding out about is, you know, beyond. I wasn’t aware of this kind of business. There are people in the business who were aware of it, and they’re coming out now too. I think there now are 34 women who have stepped forward.”
Lee Pryor then told a story about a time when she and Richard had Bill and Camille over for dinner, saying that she felt really judged by both of them because they had a big hole in the wall where a Tiffany Lamp used to be (Richard had torn it out after getting jealous after a threesome). She says both Bill and Camille were extremely judgmental people and that this was their “thing.”
When asked if she thinks Camille knew about the assaults, Lee Pryor said, “I think she had to. First of all, there was a lawsuit 10 years ago — there was a lawsuit and a settlement. Also there’s a story a journalist told me about, about him stopping a National Enquirer story by throwing one of his kids under the bus. So, of course she knew. Of course she knew. Why’s she going for the okie-doke as Richard would say? That’s anybody’s guess. I’m not gonna say. I can guess why. Ka-ching. You know, but he’s done. He’s done.”
Lee Pryor then suggested that with all Bill Cosby’s criticisms of the black community, and saying “Oh, you don’t want your kids killed, tell them not to steal Twinkies” and just “protesting too much,” that eventually something was gonna come out. Which is true, and always the way. Recounting Beverly Johnson’s story of being drugged by Cosby, Lee Pryor then just said. “Yeah, he’s a piece of shit.”
Serious kudos to Jennifer Lee Pryor for being so frank and not being all “Oh well, no one really knows, blahbittyblahblah” about things. It’s super refreshing–and yeah. Bill Cosby is a piece of shit. No question about it.
