About to head over to the South Island? Don’t board the ferry without experiencing the best that Wellington has to offer. As the capital of New Zealand, it is a centre of culture located amidst beautiful scenery.

In this post, we’ll share attractions you shouldn’t miss during your visit – enjoy!

Contents

  • (1) Museum of New Zealand
  • (2) Otari-Wilton’s Bush
  • (3) Wairarapa Wine Region
  • (4) Cuba Street

(1) Museum of New Zealand

Known in Maori as Te Papa Tongarewa, the Museum of New Zealand offers a comprehensive look at the history, indigenous culture, flora, and fauna of this fascinating nation. Start with the history gallery, with shows off native Maori dress, as well as the clothing that colonizers wore when they made contact in the 17th century.

Additionally, make sure you check out their plant and bird specimens, as there are 250,000 and 70,000 respectively in their collections. However, don’t leave before you get a chance to see the remains of the rare colossal squid. The largest in the world at over 14 feet long, it is a truly surreal sight to see.

After a full day at New Zealand’s most significant museum, you’ll likely want to kick up your feet and have a relaxing night in rather than hit the town. It doesn’t have to be a dull evening, either – the internet has plenty of games waiting to be played.

You have a taste for real money casino games, but there’s one problem – you don’t want your partner finding out that you play. No problem – there are crypto casinos that ensure that your play is shrouded from others.

For example, cloudbet claims to be 100% anonymous – that is, there is no paper or digital trail that proves you were playing on an online casino. With loads of slots, blackjack & roulette variants, and other fun pit games, you can grind all you want, and nobody will be the wiser.

(2) Otari-Wilton’s Bush

Want to check out New Zealand’s flora, but in living form? Make a trip out to Otari-Wilton’s Bush. This property is home to the only public botanical gardens featuring plants endemic to New Zealand, with over 1,200 different species in total.

Featuring a five-hectare garden and a 100-hectare forest, lovers of the outdoors will find plenty to love here, including an 800-year-old rimu tree, making it likely the oldest tree in all of Wellington.

(3) Wairarapa Wine Region

Sample some of New Zealand’s finest vino by taking a day trip out to the Wairarapa Wine Region. With almost 30 vineyards in the area, it is a small wine growing region by international standards, but the vintages produced in the region are becoming famous for the quality of their pinot noirs.

Be sure to hire a tour agency to drive you around, as everyone in your party should get to enjoy the amazing wines of this delightful corner of the world.

(4) Cuba Street

End your time in Wellington with an evening on Cuba Street. A pedestrian street is known for its high-quality restaurants, cafes, and bars, this district is at its best on a Friday afternoon, as it is packed with workers starting the weekend off the right way.

Bust a move at the oddly-named Laundry Bar, as it is a popular place among up-and-coming DJs.
