Princess Charlotte was born in May 2015, as the middle child and, at the same time, the only daughter to Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton. We also know that she was baptized at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene on Queen Elizabeth II’s Sandringham Estate, but what remained unclear for some time was who Princess Charlotte’s godparents were.
Many people thought that Prince Harry was Princess Charlotte’s godfather, but, in fact, the members of the British royal family don’t pick their siblings as godparents to their children. So, who are they?
First of all, the Princess has five godparents, all of whom were announced when she was baptized. There’s Laura Fellowes, Prince William’s cousin, the niece of the late Princess Diana, and one of the Duchess’ closest friends, Sophie Carter. In addition to two godmothers, Princess Charlotte has three godfathers, as well – Adam Middleton, who is Kate Middleton’s cousin, and James Meade and Thomas van Straubenzee, Prince William’s best friends.
Now that we solved this mystery, what about Princess Charlotte’s brothers, Prince Louis and Prince George? Well, as for Prince Louis, he has six godparents. These include Nicholas van Cutsem, Guy Pelly, Harry Aubrey-Fletcher, Lady Laura Meade, and Mrs. Robert Carter. All of them are Prince William’s and Kate Middleton’s close friends, but there’s also one member of the family – duchess’ cousin Lucy Middleton.
Finally, Prince George has seven godparents, including Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, a former private secretary to the royal couple, William van Cutsem (Prince William’s best friend), Julia Samuel (one of Princess Diana’s good friends), Emilia Jardine-Paterson (one of Duchess’ closest friends), Zara Tindall, who is Prince William’s cousin, Oliver Baker (both duke and duchess’ college friend), and Earl Grosvenor (the son of the Duke of Westminster).
Well, there’s only one thing to say – these babies will be quite lucky to have so many godparents looking after them.
