How To Best Add An External Microphone for Cell Phone?

When looking at all the ways to add an external microphone, a few stand out. Not only that, but the following 4 ways that we’ll mention give you the best chance for the microphone to work as intended.

So what are the ways to do that? The first one is via Bluetooth. This is probably the most common way. Other include through the headphone jack directly, wirelessly, and through the charger port.

Let’s look at how to add with all four.

1. Via Bluetooth

No doubt Bluetooth technology isn’t anything new. We’ve all used Bluetooth to transfer music, photos, or videos at some point. But Bluetooth has a much different use nowadays. Instead of transferring media, we use it to connect with other devices. Bluetooth is a technology that is quite frequently used when connecting devices to your smart TV. And you can use it to connect an external microphone for phone recording. To add an external microphone via Bluetooth, you first need to make sure that the particular microphone has this feature. This is the easiest way to do it as all you need is to simply power up the Bluetooth on both devices.

While we did mention that the mic has to have Bluetooth first, it isn’t the end of the world if the mic doesn’t have this capability. To overcome this problem on a mic with no Bluetooth capabilities, you have to buy a Bluetooth transmitter.

2. Directly Via Headphone Jack

This next method of adding a microphone for a cell phone ticks all the boxes in terms of convenience. If the microphone you own doesn’t have Bluetooth capabilities, then don’t bother buying a transmitter, simply get a cable that connects both devices.

The cable that you need to get is a standard TRRS male phone connector with a 3.5mm head. You simply put the jack in the mic slot and in the phone slot and you’re good to go.

It’s as easy as making pie. Although you might have some issues with this one, considering that there are plenty of similar cables on the market, the rule to follow is the before-mentioned one.

Never get a TS or TRS connector as it will not work. Always go for a TRRS connector as they’re designed to work for your problem.

If you can’t make it work, then consider getting a splitter. The splitter can convert a TS or TRS connector into a TRRS specially designed for smartphones.

Regardless of what type of connectivity you’re going for, SYNCO smartphone microphones have you covered. They have plenty of microphones that can connect in all kinds of ways, including the 4 we’re mentioning in this article.

3. Wirelessly Via Headphone Jack

If you don’t like cables, there is yet another way to connect a mic to the phone wirelessly. Bluetooth is the first way to do it, but you can also establish a TRRS connection wirelessly. But how is that possible?

Well, to do that, you will need a wireless microphone that connects physically with the headphone jack of your smartphone but transmits audio wirelessly to your laptop or PC.

There is a particular use case of adding a mic this way. Namely, this method is all about establishing a physical connection between both devices, but the audio goes to the laptop via radio wave.

The convenience of this method makes it highly sought after for professionals who record professional videos and need to send the audio to their laptop or PC (the main workstation).

4. Via Charger Port

And the last method of establishing a connection between your mic and phone is through the charger port. As one would imagine, you will need another type of cable to establish the connection.
The microphone for phone recording that uses this method is called a USB microphone. Luckily for you, you probably have this cable at home. The cable is a USD type C and most new smartphones come with it. But you will need to make sure that the mic has the same charger port as your smartphone. Microphone for a cell phone that uses a USB type C to establish a connection works seamlessly.

There are some amazing options out there and is probably the most popular way to get the job done.

Benefits Of Getting An External Microphone

So now that we’ve told you how to do it, why should you even bother getting an external mic? The reasons are pretty simple and straightforward. An external mic equals better quality of sound and recording. These are professional gadgets that are designed for that specific reason. A mic or a phone will never achieve the same results as an external one.

Another reason is for professional use. Since our smartphones come with amazing cameras, plenty of people use them for YouTube or recording videos for other platforms. The convenience of using your smartphone as a camera cannot be underestimated. But even if the camera is great, the microphone isn’t.

So simply attach an external mic and you have a package that works amazingly well.

Conclusion

External mics are there to help any6one get the desired results when recording any sort of video or testimonial. They produce better sound and are intended for professional use. You don’t even have to splash the cash, but the more expensive mics are always going to produce even better results.
