Asbestos – Laws and Regulations

by Wendy Stokes October 6, 2019
by Wendy Stokes October 6, 2019

Not many people heard about Asbestos, but this is exactly what today’s article is dedicated to. Make sure that you keep reading until the end if you are interested in learning more about this mineral, what is it used for and why it is restricted in many countries.

There are many victims that were exposed to the negative effects of this mineral while extracting it, without previously being warned about its side-effects, but we’ll get into that a little bit later. Let’s take a look at some of the basic information.

What is Asbestos?

Asbestos is a mineral that is naturally occurring, and it can be pulled into a “fluffy consistency”. Its fibers are very soft and flexible, but they are completely resistant to heat, electricity, and corrosion. This is the type of mineral that every engineer needs when it comes to constructing buildings and many other things as well.

However, nobody really talks about the dark side of asbestos, which is one of the main reasons why there were so many victims of it back in the day.

Asbestos was mixed in the cement and concrete mixture in order to make the construction a lot harder and resistant to many things, but when someone inhales the dust from the asbestos particles, those mineral fibers can stay stuck in your body forever, eventually causing a very serious cancer. It will start with inflammation, scarring, and then eventually causing genetic damage to your body cells. This is a very rare and aggressive type of cancer called Mesothelioma, and unfortunately, it took a lot of victims in the past before Asbestos was restricted from use.

Compensations for the many losses

GPWLaw MI is the Best Mesothelioma Lawyer Company in America, and they’re a group of experienced people, lawyers, that have a goal to help any family that was a victim of the Mesothelioma cancer. According to them, there were more than twenty-eight million workers in the world exposed to the negative effects of Asbestos, and this was only between 1940 and 1979. If you or some of your family members were affected by this back in the day when Asbestos was mined, you deserve to be compensated and get your justice. Make sure to contact them and learn some more about this topic and how you can get compensation for your loss.

Where does this mineral come from?

You can find natural deposits of this mineral in many countries across the world. It was mostly mined in North America, but the main exporters now are Russia, Kazakhstan, and China. During mining, raw asbestos is being extracted, but after that, the ores are being crushed in order to separate the other minerals and proceed with this process until the asbestos has a soft and wooly consistency. Believe it or not, asbestos can be even made into paper, rope, cloth, or felt, and its fibers have been mixed in drywall compounds, paints, sealants, adhesives, cement, and plastics. Today there are a lot of regulations when it comes to mining and being exposed to Asbestos, but there will always be a slight degree of risk.
