In 2019, Narine Arakelian’s passion for art earned her fame, making her one of the top female artists to follow.
Narine was born in Siberia from Armenia descent and a graduate of the Art Department of the State Surikov Institute in Moscow in 2015. At a young age, her artistic abilities and talents have been very clear, as she was honored to be taught by professional artists, such as Aidan Salakhova, Sergey Ossovsky and Yuri Shishkov during this time. Following her graduation, Narine completed a year-long internship at the Digital Arts Department at the Los Angeles Academy of Art, developing and perfecting her creative talents. Evidently enough, her abilities and hard work set off as she exposed her talents to the world when she headlined the Armenian Pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale and left many intrigued with her work.
Narine develops and creates her inspiration from her Siberian roots and experiences around the world to inform her artistic practice. Beginning with her knowledge of classic academic art, she looks into detail with the use of her multimedia contemporary art. This includes multiple formats from performance, virtual reality, digital art, glass and metal sculptures, lightboxes, silkscreen on ecclesiastical fabrics, gold leaf paintings, installation and environmental art.
Already this year, Narine has headlined two events in Los Angeles, one at the W Hotel in Hollywood and one at the MASH Gallery in DTLA – both very trending locations. The red carpet “A GoGo” exhibition at the W Hotel was a massive event held on the stunning rooftop venue overlooking the Hollywood skyline that was once Drai’s nightclub. Ongoing, it is now a huge venue with a gigantic indoor area, stunning rooftop deck and surrounding patio that many are drawn to.
The event was a wonderful museum-quality exhibition of artists from over the world that was critically acclaimed and named one of the best events of LA Frieze. It was attended by popular celebrities, such as David Arquette, Samia Arslane, Darwin Shaw, Sofia Milos and Ellen Hollman as well as art critics, art collectors and VIPS.
Narine’s artwork undeniably stood out from the rest. She created a dynamic installation that captured the crowd’s attention from every angle. Titled “Initiation”, the jaw-dropping scenery was centrally located in the space and with a towering sculpture and a long regal gold canvas train with a mixed media and digital art piece in the center along with a diamond cut scepter. This featured her famous LOVE canvas and infamous performance art piece titled “Rebirth Subconscious”. The A-List celebrities were very astonished with seeing a newcomer, such as Narine herself, practically steal the show.
Narine’s work left celebrities and other artists excited and wanting more. Her grace and elegance charmed crowds at all the major events she attended during the LA Frieze and the Oscars 2024. It is no surprise that following her overwhelming success and gratitude led to the impressive opening of her Los Angeles studio. From there, she will be revealing new LA projects in the upcoming months.
Earlier this year, Narine’s art was showcased at the 19th edition Scope Art Fair in Miami. This form of exposure resulted in her receiving an enormous amount of praise by the press, buyers and members of the public, specifically, taking thousands of selfies in front of her stunning LOVE art piece.
Her LOVE painting is a magnificent piece of art work handcrafted with bold letters and golden silk throughout the word. Additionally, she created a similar piece with the word HOPE. This was included in a series of artistic portraits taken of Arakelian at the famous Versace Villa. With these paintings depicting Narine’s talent, both of them ended up on display at her solo show “The Pharos Flower” in Venice, Contarini del Bovolo at the Scope Art Fair Show.
Displayed at her solo show “The Pharos Flower” was her digital work, specifically created for the exhibition, named ‘Rebirth Subconscious’ 2019. This unique piece transcends one’s spirituality through the interaction with art. The video contributes soothing, meditative music to really set the scene of immersion into one’s subconsciousness. The beautiful cinematography shows an unwinding of draperies around the artist, video frames of light, replaced by statues of rebirth with the artist’s body used as an art object. She experiences and plays with elements, movement and light to properly show plastic solutions from the Renaissance transcend to modern art. The world she created through this masterpiece shows the interpenetration and intertwining of the illusory and true values in the life of a person, social body and spiritual needs.
Narine reminds us that the concept of art remains an element of communication and continuity, capable of establishing and making clear the link between past and future. This is a pure connection between contemporary artwork and ancient creations, which highlights a significant theme.
Narine uses the perfect combination of sculpture, painting, multimedia and performing arts to question social freedom and gender identity. Furthermore, she promotes the new digital technologies that are trending in the art world. It is the newest frontier of the art market and will continue to emerge.
Additionally, the combination shows her view of humans as energy waves. This ultimately transforms our reality. Her artworks depicts her reactions to the changes in our perception and experience traditions connected to marriage, which were brought about by science and new media. Her work has become a part of history and relates back to the relevance of how important it is for the arts to be taken seriously.
She is an official accredited member of the Russian Union of Artists. Currently, her works are in private collections in England, France, Greece, USA, Switzerland, and Russia. This internationally recognized artist is presently based in Venice, Italy and Los Angeles, California. We cannot wait to see what else she has in store for this year!
