The popularity of botox in New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, and other major US cities has become immeasurable, so to say. In 2018 this industry has turned 15, and since its appearance on the market in 2002 it has made roughly $21.1 billion. If that information doesn’t make you smile it just might mean that you’re using a tad too much of it. This drug came from a pharmaceutical company called Allergan and boy have they hit the jackpot, together with Prozac and Viagra they make the holy trinity of lifestyle drugs, which are most associated with making you look and feel better rather than making you healthier, and slowly but surely it is changing the lives of celebrities and millennials alike.

The CEO of Havas PR shared his opinion on the matter, he said that in the past people thought that you stay the way you were born, but then orthodontics came to fruition and completely changed their minds. A big reason for that was seeing celebrities starting to use Botox, Jenny McCarthy, Simon Cowell, Kelly Ripa, and Courteney Cox are just a fraction of a large number of stars that use it.

Botox is the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure, and it shows in numbers, in the last year alone it has made $2.8 billion in global revenue, while Viagra has made $1.2 billion, but all in all the later one has made more money than the skin smoothening drug over the 15 years since its inclination, $27 to $21 billion to be exact.

In 2016 there were around 7.1 million Botulinum Toxin Type A procedures, which made up 46 percent of all non-surgical cosmetic procedures, the information was provided by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Another interesting tidbit is that since 2000 Botox has seen a 797 percent growth.

According to a board-certified plastic Surgeon, Dr. Matthew Schulman, that works on Manhattan’s Upper East Side he prices the Botox injections at $300 per area. He also said that the three most popular areas to use Botox on are between the eyebrows, the forehead and around the eyes, which is normally done in one visit, so in turn, it usually costs $900 and can last up to 4 months before needing another procedure.

One of the main characteristics Botox has going for it is that it’s low-risk, and it has definitely proved its usefulness. Around ten years ago there was a huge rise in male patients because the economy got really competitive and the amount of procedures hasn’t lessened since then. After males patients started coming in age became irrelevant too, you would see as many people in their 20s as in their 40s. The so-called millennials who aren’t influenced by celebrities as much, but by social media. Social media is a big part of Botox gaining popularity.
