Choosing The Best Remote Controlled Helicopter For Kids

What would perhaps be the best toy you can gift your child this Christmas? You wouldn’t go very wrong if you were to choose a remote-controlled helicopter toy. No matter how old your child is, there are suitable models. That said, choosing the best remote controlled helicopter for kids is no easy task. There are a plethora of awesome models to choose from.
Well, no worries. Today might be your lucky day because I’ll be giving recommendations about getting the best helicopter for them. Before we get into the nitty-gritty, let’s answer a question that is sure to be on your mind right now …

Gifting an RC Helicopter Toy – Is It a Good Idea?

You bet!

There are several reasons why remote-controlled helicopters are great for kids …

source: amazon.com

* They inspire active play:
These toys stimulate the imagination of a child, and keeps them actively engaged in controlling and flying the helicopter. They will not lose their appeal after an hour, unlike most other toys. More so if you buy a model that comes with a camera. There’s so much a child can do and explore with one of these that they are highly likely to take it up as a serious hobby.

* These toys are sturdy, and replacement parts are readily available:
Crashes are all too frequent when a child is learning to fly a helicopter toy. So these toys are built to take a lot of punishment. They do not break easily, and even if they do replacement parts are readily available.

* RC helicopter toys are challenging but not frustrating:
Some toys like complex puzzles and the like can challenge a child for a while. But if the complexity level is too high, the child will end up getting frustrated and lose interest.

A helicopter toy challenges the capabilities of a child, but since these are relatively easy to learn, do not frustrate. And the child will have the satisfaction of learning a new skill that’s engaging and a lot of fun.

* These toys are inexpensive:
For less than $100, you can buy a pretty good toy that can delight your child. Models like Syma 111G, Syma S107G, GPToys G610, E-flite Blade mCX2 RTF, and others are ideal for children.  The advanced models do cost quite a bit more. But then, you would not want to buy those big and expensive ones for a child. Those expensive models are meant for serious hobbyists and experienced pilots – these are not kids’ models anyway.

* It can be a serious hobby:
Once a child masters a particular model, it can graduate to a better, more advanced model. There is a lot to explore when it comes to RC helicopters: simulators, quadcopters, hexacopters, octacopters, and high priced, professional level drones. So this can be a serious hobby that can stimulate the imagination of a child and lead them to pursue this as a hobby – and perhaps, even as a career later on.

That said, there just a couple of things you would want to pay attention to when buying one of these toys …

Battery Life of Remote Controlled Helicopter Toys

Most of these toys have a flying time between 5 to 7 minutes. And the batteries usually take about an hour to charge. So getting at least a few spare batteries is not a bad idea. Waiting for batteries to charge can be a frustrating experience for any child.

Don’t Fly RC Helicopters Around Pets

You would not want your child to crash the helicopter into your pet. That can be a traumatizing experience for your pet and might cause injuries as well. Even though these are very lightweight and can cause hardly any damage, you would not want to take any chances.
