Coronavirus Fashion Becoming a New Trend

by Petar Mikonoss April 13, 2020

A few months ago, we learned about coronavirus and not long after almost every country was affected by this virus. It is deadlier than the seasonal flu, and it spreads at an incredible rate. Most people who contract this virus survive, but some of them, usually the elderly and people with preexisting conditions, may lose the battle with COVID-19. The world health organization declared a pandemic at the beginning of March and they are reminding us daily what we need to do to stay safe. The most common recommendations include wearing a mask, washing our hands and social distancing.
Nowadays, pretty much everyone has their own way of protecting their face and hands. We see people with masks everywhere and most of us wear gloves as well when grocery shopping. When the virus started spreading, most people started wearing surgical masks and the same type of gloves, but as the pandemic happened, new types of masks with interesting designs appeared. Now it seems like people are enjoying the cool and unique masks and it seems as coronavirus fashion is becoming a new trend.
Experts say that this virus is going to largely affect the fashion trends and that it will change the way we dress. Here we are going to talk about just that, what COVID-19 fashion means and how it affects people.

Reusable clothes?

The first thing people worry about is how long can coronavirus survive on different surfaces. So, we normally question can we use the same clothes twice after going to work or when we go to the supermarket. Experts say that the virus can live on clothes for up to two days. Because of that, we should wash clothes after every wearing.
If you are the type of person who likes to re-wear their clothes and doesn’t wash clothes after one hour of wearing them (pretty much no one does that), then we have some bad news for you. If you want to be fully protected, you should not wear the same clothes twice. You may disinfect them and use alcohol or another type of sanitizer and spray it on the clothes, but this may damage the fabric and may not really protect you.
Things like this could affect the fashion trends, as people will not wear the same clothes twice in a row. This leaves the possibility for new trends and possibly new types of fabric that will be easier to wash and dry. Depending on the type of fabric, the virus survives more or dries out faster. There are still not enough studies, but preliminary findings suggest that natural materials are better, since COVID-19 lives more on artificial fabrics.

Masks are the new trend

It is said that only people who are sick or have symptoms of cold and flu should wear a mask. However, to protect themselves from a sick person possibly coughing in their face, everyone started wearing masks. New research says that the virus can live in the air for up to three hours and that means that you should still wear a mask when you go to the store, bank, or any place that is visited by others frequently.
We were used to masks usually being white and some types were available in black as well. As the virus started spreading people became more creative in the designs. This is helping the population because we feel like we can choose the cutest or coolest mask and even combine it with the rest of the clothes.
Nowadays people are even creating custom face masks that look trendy and cool, so if you are interested in finding out what types of designs are available, you can click here. This gives us the liberty to show our personal style while we are still protected.
Celebrities, as well as some politicians color coordinate the face mask with the rest of their clothes. This not only shows style, but they are showing their support and lead by example. Another thing that is happening is that fashion designers get more ideas on how to create masks and design them in different ways and patterns.

What to pay attention to

When you are buying a mask that you like, the first thing you need to do is check if they are made with all the regulations. They still need to protect us from the virus and droplets that might potentially infect us. So, before getting a new mask, check the regulations and how it’s made. There are some types of masks that are for one use only, but there are others that can be washed and reused.
Now we get the point to see if the same thing happens with gloves. For now, people are still using surgical gloves that usually come in white, blue or black. We are expecting coronavirus to change the fashion on gloves as well, so we may start wearing protective gloves that come in different designs and patterns.
Do you think that this trend is happening just because people want to feel like they are choosing to wear face masks? People feel more in control when they turn something bad into something good and nowadays, we don’t have any other choice but to wear those masks, gloves and to wear different clothes every day and wash the ones we wore even for an hour in the grocery store.
Coronavirus has a huge impact on the mental health of everyone and turning something negative that makes us feel suffocated into something cool and interesting may make a difference in our lives. So, next time you feel like that mask is robbing you from your freedom, try to find a mask that makes you smile. You can even create your own mask, just make sure you follow every regulation.
Remember that you are doing these things to protect yourself and that we hope to get through this period as soon as possible. If you buy custom masks or if you design and create them yourself, make sure to get something that will really protect you. For now, we should not wear a mask that was poorly made just to fit in with the crowd. Hopefully, soon we will be able to choose random masks that just remind us of the victory over the coronavirus pandemic.
