You just got done dying your hair the color you wanted for a while now.  You looked down and noticed it is all over your hands and now you are wondering how to remove hair dye from your skin?  Do not freak out and start trying to get it off with water.  That will not do anything!!  Once you are done reading this article, you will know how to get hair dye off of your skin.

How To Remove Hair Dye From Your Skin

There are numerous different ways to go about this, we will discuss 8 methods for removing hair dye from your skin.

Method #1

Petroleum jelly is one way to remove hair dye from your skin.  Massage a large amount of petroleum jelly onto the hair dye stain.  You may notice that the jelly is changing color.  Take a cloth and wipe the jelly off your skin.  If you still see the stain, then put more jelly on and you can leave it overnight.  Make sure you cover the jelly with something that is not important to you, or it will stain your pillow.  Petroleum jelly is great for the skin, does not smell and a great moisturizer.

Method #2

Hairspray is a method you can use to remove hair dye from your skin.  It is not a preferred method for some skin types, it will work!  If the stain is on your neck and or face area, get a cotton ball and spray the hairspray on the cotton ball and rub the stain.  If the hair dye is on your hands, you can just spray your hands with hairspray and rub vigorously.  I would definitely apply the hairspray with caution and rinse with warm water if you start to feel discomfort to your skin!!

Method #5

Dish soap and baking soda will also help you get hair dye stain off of your skin.  Apply equal parts of dish soap to baking soda on the stain.  Scrub the stain gently for a few minutes.  After you have scrubbed for a few minutes, rinse the area with warm water.  If the stain is still there.  Repeat the process and see what happens.  If it still does not disappear, then you may need to try a more abrasive method in the list to see if you can get the hair dye off of your skin.

Method #6

They do nothing at all method is probably the best for your skin and the one I prefer the most.  If the hair dye stain is in a place where you can’t see it with your hair down, then I would not worry about it.  It will wash out over a day or two.  If it is on your hands, I would not worry about it at all.   The hair dye with some soap and water will disappear probably by the end of the day.  If it is on your face or by your ears.  Just get some soap and warm water with a washcloth or cotton ball and scrub gently.  This method is the better option if you have sensitive skin and break out easily.

Method #7

Liquid laundry detergent is another option if you have tried some of these and they are not working.  Laundry detergent is a little more abrasive than some of the others, but it removes stains from fabrics so why not from your skin as well.  Apply a really small amount to your stained skin and rub it with your fingers.

Let the detergent soak into your skin for about 30 minutes.  Blot the stain gently and make sure your skin is not having a reaction.  After the 30 minutes, rinse the spot and see if the stain has disappeared.  If the stain is still there, you can repeat the process or move onto another method for removing hair dye from your skin.

Method #8

This method is for the very desperate.  You can use GO-JO or Lava soap.  These are great for removing grease your skin.  A lot of mechanics uses this stuff.  It will work great to get the hair dye off of your skin but is very abrasive and some of it can smell funny.  You will only need a small amount on a cotton bay and gently scrub the area where you have hair dye.  Scrub for a couple of minutes and then rinse with warm water.  You stain should no longer be there and your skin will be hair dye-free.

Now that you have read through all the methods in this article, it is now time for you to make the decision on which one or ones you are going to try.  Keep in mind how sensitive your skin is towards some of the chemicals and how dry your skin will get if you use some of these options.  If you have sensitive skin you may want to stick to the petroleum jelly, the oils or the do nothing at all method.  These will be the least abrasive on your skin but may take a little more time to remove the hair dye from your skin.

If you have tough skin and need the stain off immediately then you should try the more chemical-based methods to remove the stain quickly.  Just remember to avoid getting it in your eyes!  So, now that you are done reading this article, you can now go and remove that hair dye stain from your skin.

Good luck!!
