Indo- western outfits you should try out

by Wendy Stokes January 2, 2019

Indo-western outfits are a mix in Indian ethnic outfits and western designs. The outfits are trendy and fit into Indian fashion trends well. Western designs are more modern while ethnic designs date back to centuries. This fusion makes clothes look modern while still having a cultural aspect. Modern clothes create a perception of a fun, bold and elegant personality. If you do not have any modern trends in your closet here is what to look out for

Here are some of the designs we adopted form the western fashion world; how to spot indo-western attire

Neon colored clothes

Neon colors are a western trend that designers love to add to ethnic wear. Before neon colors Indian clothes were filled with bright and bold colors, this may explain why this trend set in so quickly. Neon colors should be worn to festivals, casual meetings and any informal events

Asymmetrical shapes

Thanks to this new trend, we say goodbye to boring straight hemlines. Shapes such as the high-low, c-cut, center and side slits and fringes make your ethnic wear fun and stylish. You can see most of these hemlines in modern kurti designs,

Fancy sleeve styles

Fancy sleeves are the best when you are going for a sophisticated and trendy looks. Some famous western sleeves include puffs, flares, fringes, off shoulders, open shoulder and one shoulder designs. If you feel the outfit is too revealing you can cover your shoulders with a dupatta or sheer cape.

Layering

Believe it or not, layering was adopted from the western trend of the gown. They layered the bottom part of the gown until it appeared puffed. Ethnic dresses are being layered to fit different occasions. Wedding clothes like the lehenga and saree are being layered to produce a gown-like shape.

Western necklines

The design of your neckline has the power to portray your outfit a certain way. Some necklines have been around for centuries while others were adopted only recently. The collard neck, high neckline, turtle neck, asymmetrical neckline and peter pan neck line are some of the western designs that you can see in ethnic clothes.

We have seen both formal and casual pants incorporated in Indian fashion wear

Casual pants such as jeans, jeggings and dungaree go well with ethnic wear. They are comfortable and easy to style. Jeans can match any style kurti to create a laid back look

Have a look at some of the indo-western outfits you should try

Tail cut kurti

The tail cut is an infusion between Indian attire and western design. The kurti is an Indian traditional design while the cut of the kurti is western. The tail cut kurti has a short hemline in the front and a longer one in the back. You can wear this kurti with leggings or jeans for a casual look. Stylecaret have the best designer tail cut kurti which complements all body types , you can style them with different bottoms for different occasions.

Capes

Cape is a western design that is here to stay. We have seen people wearing it as a throw on and a jacket, and designers have been seen to incorporate it into Indian outfits. You can find sheer capes incorporated into kurti, or warm capes in choli tops. Capes can cover you if your outfit is too revealing or keep you warm during winter

A lehenga and Denim kurti

Who doesn’t love a god denim outfit? Denim has become quite a popular material when making ethnic wear. Apart from jeans and jackets, you find people wearing denim skirts, t-shirts, crop tops among other clothes. A denim jacket kurti would go well with a lehenga choli for a summer chic look.

Dhoti saree

A dhoti saree is not easy to drape, you will probably have to watch tonnes of videos to get the idea.  The dhoti saree is created from the concept of the saree but has a European cut. You can wear a bright printed dhoti saree to casual events, festivals and religious ceremony such as a wedding. It is a modern flexible look that goes well with sandals and sneakers.

Western and European cut sherwani

The sherwani is the best indo-western look for men.  Indo-western sherwani are made of the traditional sherwani concept, but the clean European cut gives it a clean look. The button line of a sherwani is typically at the centre of your collar, but with an indo-western look you never know how surprised you will be.

Salwar jumpsuits

The salwar jumpsuit is a mixture of the western jumpsuit design and the ethnic salwar pants design. A jumpsuit is a full body suit where the top and bottoms are connected with a stitch. Salwar pants are buggy with pleats around the hips and tight fitting on the waist and ankles. This jumpsuit is modern, elegant and sophisticated. Choose one that is loose fitting and has colors that complement your skin tone. Paired with the right jacket, this look can transform form official to casual real quick.

Ghagra and t-shirt combination

A ghagra is the original lehenga design. You can wear a lehenga with a cropped t-shirt or a tacked in t-shirt to achieve an indo-western look. Complete this look with a pair of matching converse or closed rubber shoes. This casual wear is appropriate for school, casual meetings with friends and while you are relaxing at home.

Denim kurti

A denim kurti is a basic kurti design made of denim material. It is a comfortable casual outfit you can wear to school and casual meetings with friends. This look is popular among the youth. A denim kurti is comfortable, does not require much styling and can keep you cool during hot summers.

Saree-like skirt

The latest design indo western outfits are the maxi-skirt made to look like a saree. It is simple to wear and does not need draping. It is a simple fix for situations where you need to dress in traditional wear but you cannot afford to. You can wear this skirt with a choli or crop top and dupatta to complete the look.

Final word

Spice up your closet by incorporating some of these western designs. It is time to stop wearing the same old outfits and start being creative.
