We already knew that John Boyega thinks that Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Poe and Finn might just be gay after all, and J.J. Abrams said recently that it would seem “insanely narrow-minded and counterintuitive to say that there wouldn’t be a homosexual character” in the Star Wars universe. But twist: Mark Hamill thinks it might be Luke Skywalker instead.
As he told The Sun:
“I just read online that JJ is very much open to that. In the old days you would get fan mail. But now fans are writing and ask all these questions, ‘I’m bullied in school… I’m afraid to come out’. They say to me, ‘Could Luke be gay?’ I’d say it is meant to be interpreted by the viewer. If you think Luke is gay, of course he is. You should not be ashamed of it. Judge Luke by his character, not by who he loves.”
Awwww. Of course, that would throw a wrench into the theory that Rey is Luke’s daughter, but I never believed that one anyway.
Another reason why the Star Wars universe and fandom is the best: Everyone wants to be the gay guy! Who’s voting for Poe, Finn, and Luke to be gay? I can see the slashfic now.
