Biker fashion has been popular for ages now and what’s even greater is that it almost hasn’t changed one iota over the years (if we ignore the 80s). If there’s one thing that’s iconic and often associated with the biker look, it’s the leather jacket. Ask any fashion designer and they will tell you – you must have a leather jacket. Why? Well, leather jackets are just timeless pieces, and what’s even better – they get cooler with age.
A leather jacket is a fashion statement, but what many don’t know is, leather jackets were designed back in the late 20s, especially for bikers to wear. From that point on, it didn’t take much time for these iconic jackets to take over the world. Before you knew it – everyone was wearing them. It didn’t matter whether you could ride a motorcycle or not – you just wanted that leather jacket.
Here we are, almost 100 years later and still, everyone loves a good leather jacket.
2. Accessories Are A Must

If there was someone that knew how to accessorise before anyone did, it’s the bikers. Sure, people have always worn jewellery, but rarely on an everyday basis. Even kings and queens took breaks from wearing gold and diamonds.
Bikers popularised wearing accessories such as heavy rings, large pendants, leather or skull bracelet, and so on, as part of your daily attire. Now, if we’re completely honest, for bikers, jewelry wasn’t about accessorizing and looking good – it was about belief.
Every motive you see on the biker’s body means something. Whether it’s a skull, a cross, a Viking hammer or something else – it’s all deeply rooted in biker culture. For instance, many believe that bikers glorify death because they wear skull rings or pendants around their necks, when in fact, it’s quite the opposite of that. For bikers, a skull represents death, or better yet – a death’s mark. The superstition is, if a Grim Reaper sees a skull on your body, it will believe that you have already died and will move on from you, thus saving your life.

Another quite popular item when it comes to biker fashion are leather boots. Leather boots were previously made popular by cowboys, but bikers took it to another level. They’ve adapted the style, they’ve made it rougher and tougher, but in some way, more appealing to the general public.
Nowadays, you can be certain that at least 2 out of 3 people own a pair of leather boots, and why wouldn’t they? They’re cool, powerful and look good with pretty much any outfit – could you ask for more?
4. Black Goes With Everything

As you know, dark colours, especially black, are often associated with biker fashion. Whether we’re talking about a leather jacket or a t-shirt, chances are, if a biker’s wearing it – it’s black. This has to be one of the reasons as to why biker fashion has been so popular for so long. Black just goes with everything.
You could put on a pair of jeans and a plain black t-shirt and a black leather jacket and you’d look good enough for a business meeting, as well as a night about town. Naturally, we wouldn’t advise you to put on skull rings and chains around your neck for a job interview, unless you’re interviewing for a position where you don’t have to dress the par, but the rest of the biker outfit is more than welcome.

Another thing about a biker look is that it feels mighty and powerful and if there’s one thing people have always wanted, it’s power.
You want to look tough and mean? Grow a beard, put on a leather jacket and cover your fingers with skulls – done deal.
Now, we’re not saying every biker is a tough dude, but in most cases, they are. That has lead people to associate their looks with toughness, meaning, if you put on a biker outfit, chances are, people are going to believe you’re a fearless badass.
6. It Gets Better With Age

Most of the stuff we wear becomes pretty much useless after a few years, and we go out and get some new stuff. On the other hand, every iconic piece of clothing associated with biker fashion does not only last a lot longer than that, but it also gets better with age.
Every leather jacket will look infinitely times cooler if it has some age to it. Leather boots? Also better with age. Faded jeans? Better with each wash.
You see, if you’re rocking a biker outfit, you don’t have to worry about following the latest trends or switching your old clothes for new ones. No. You’ll keep wearing the same items over and over again until they become monumentally cool!
