Protect the wig with a hairnet

The first thing you should know is that you should always protect your extensions with a net so that it does not get tangled during transport. Nowadays, there are a lot of different hairnets that can help you, no matter how long or shot the wig is.

The best thing about them is that they are inexpensive, and you can purchase several of them for all of your headpieces. Note that if you have to pack in a hurry, and if you don’t have a net at home, you can use a silk scarf to gently tie it around the locks. This will not give as good protection as the nets, but it will definitely help keep all the strands in place, and the piece will not get damaged.

Hairspray is your friend

One thing that many people believe is that you need to wash the piece before you put it in your suitcase and that you are not allowed to put any products on it. In reality, hairspray can help you a lot during transport, and it will keep everything in place.

Remember that you should never put too much product on the locks, because you may damage or crumble them, but a little bit of spray will go a long way.

Note that this is not a must, and if you don’t want to, you can skip this step. In case you’ve styled the locks before, and if you don’t want to risk them falling down, then you don’t have to put any product.

If possible, use a head mannequin

The next thing we are going to talk about is something that can go a long way. Head mannequins are the best way to keep every strand in place, and if you have enough room, then you should definitely do it.

According to favirginhair.com, when you choose the right type of product, and when you purchase high-quality wigs, you are going to be able to pack them safely without using a mannequin. However, if you want to make sure that everything stays intact, you should try and make enough room for this item. Note that in case you don’t have enough room in your bag, you should just pack the extension in a net or put a scarf around it.

Never put it in a random bag or toss it in your suitcase

Now let’s talk about something that you should never do. The biggest no-no when putting the extensions in your bag is just throwing them and hoping for the best. One of the biggest mistakes people make is believing that the clothes under and over the wig will do enough protection. Note that even if everything stays in place, and if your suitcase does not get thrown around, the locks will still get damaged and crumbled.

On the same note, you should steer away from just throwing it into a plastic bag and hoping for the best. As a last resort, you can use a ziplock bag, but you need to carefully pack it, and you need to make sure it won’t get thrown around in your suitcase and that it is safely fastened in it.

Carry the needed products

When traveling, you need to carry all the right products with you. Sometimes, no matter how much attention you pay when putting the locks in the suitcase, they will get tangled, and you cannot risk looking messy, especially if you need to go to business meetings.

Note that you should always carry travel-size products that will help you with detangling. On the same note, if you need to spend more time in that location, you should pack shampoo, conditioner, or any other products you use to wash the locks. They will save you a lot of time, and if you have a special brush, don’t forget to take it with you.

Turn in inside out

The best way to make sure nothing gets tangled or damaged is to turn the wig inside out. Note that this will help out no matter if you are putting it in a ziplock bag, in a net, or if you plan on using a scarf.

When you turn it inside out, you will be protecting all the strands, and it is going to be easier for you to safely put it in your suitcase. Note that if the extensions are too long, this may be a little bit trickier, but at least it will prevent the hair from pulling and detaching from the roots or the headpiece.

Note that you should never pack the wig in the same place where you pack liquids or items that can get damaged during transport and get the piece wet. Keep it away from moisture, and if possible, put it in a separate, waterproof compartment of your bag. All of these things won’t take a lot of time, and they will actually save you hours from detangling the locks and save you money in replacing the piece.
