You should always leave your social security card at home to reduce the chances of getting it stolen. If you lost the card, you will be at a higher risk of identity. The website of the United States Government recommends leaving the card at home. And because it only contains nine numbers, memorizing them should not be hard.

Never carry all your credit cards in your wallet. If you lost the wallet, someone else will have a whole day with the cards and you will not have something else to use as you go through the process of getting other cards. Carry one or if necessary two cards alone. If you do not need anything, you have to leave it at home. Instead of a card, keep a photo in the wallet so that someone who finds it will send it to you. Statistics show that 88 percent of the wallets with baby photos are returned to the owners if found.

Avoid carrying gift cards if you are unlikely to pass by the store to use them. If the wallet landed on the hands of a pickpocket or thief, he/she will start by using the gift cards, because they are more like cash. Leave the cards at home, if you are not going shopping. Another option would be to transfer the barcode number of your library card or writing it on your phone.

After removing any card that you do not need on a daily basis, such as the driver’s license, the work access card or the state ID, you will not have a reason to get into your wallet during the day. That way, you will be able to keep your identity safe and declutter the wallet. Memorize any PIN-codes and passwords and keep them away from your security cards. After that, identify the most essential cards so that you can always keep them in your wallet.

Even though people are moving to a cashless society, you will need some money for small transactions. Carry enough so that you can purchase the items you have planned for. When in the decluttering process, classify the cards into daily cards such as credit cards, the driver’s license and the optional carry for the planned purchases such as punch cards and rewards program cards for the shopping excursions. Use the available apps to digitalize your cards passwords and cards.
