Homeowners tend to put lots of hours into their lawn in order to maintain it in perfect condition. As dreams of lush and green lawns are on every homeowner’s mind, the task is a little harder than you might expect. Lawns require a lot of time and resources put into so that it can grow its vibrant green color in full effect. In this article, we are going to give you a few tips and tricks on how to keep your lawn in top notch condition.

  • 2. Change the Mowing Pattern
  • 3. Sharpen The Mower Blades
  • 4. Replenish the Vital Ingredients

1. Water Deeply But Less Often

Did you know that you can train your grass to grow deep roots? This is done by watering your lawn deeply and less often, as opposed to short and more frequent watering. The latter of the two forces your lawn to grow a short root, and it makes it perfect for weeds and diseases to emerge. By watering deeply, you are forcing your lawn to grow deeper roots and the chances of weeds and diseases are minuscule. With deeply watering, and less often, you will grow the perfect, green lawn you’ve always wanted.

2. Change the Mowing Pattern

The grass is smarter than you think, and it can remember too. Whenever we mow our lawn, we usually do it in the same pattern as always. Since mowing can be rather boring, this makes the grass remember the mowing routine and it will grow in the same direction as the mowing goes. For this, we recommend you change the mowing pattern so that the grass can make its own alternate direction of growth. This will make the lawn look much better and it can even force it to grow healthier. If you’re interested in how to perfectly mow your lawn, you can click to learn more.

3. Sharpen The Mower Blades

If you’re a fan of Game of Thrones, then chances are you understand how important sharpening your blade can be. But another type of blade that frequently needs sharpening is the mower’s blades. Namely, you might think that your blades are sharp enough to mow the lawn, but in all fairness, they tend to dull faster than you think. Dull blades can damage the grass and that can be very bad for it overall. If the grass is damaged, rather than cut, it can hinder its growth for the future. So always make sure to have your mower blades sharpened every few mowings.

4. Replenish the Vital Ingredients

Much like us, grass requires a certain type of bacteria to successfully grow. By spreading a thin layer, usually ¼ inch, of screened compost over the entirety of your lawn will replenish those vital organisms, bacteria, and fungi that play a key role in having healthy soil. By having a healthy soil that composes of those organisms, your grass will feed on that natural fertilizer and it will grow bigger, stronger, and faster than ever before. Furthermore, these organisms, bacteria, and fungi, move through the soil and help diminish compaction and improve the soil structure. Fertilizers are very important if you want your lawn to grow in perfect condition. They are cheap and organic solutions that help improve your lawn’s life, and they can help with other things as well.
