The global supplement market has exploded over the last few years. With each supplement that is released, it becomes harder and harder for people to determine which ones to use, as each comes with a host of promises of benefits to be delivered. Some supplements hold true to their promises whereas others simply take advantage of the demand.

One very popular supplement that delivers its promises is the branched chain amino acids or BCAAs, as they are more popularly known. Not only do BCAAs great because they create an anabolic environment for continued muscle growth, but they are also vital in aiding recovery and muscle preservation, especially during prolonged and fasted workouts.

What exactly are BCAAs?

Amino acids are the building blocks of both muscle and protein. In total, there are 22 known amino acids with 9 being categorized as essential.  By essential, it simply means that the human body is incapable of producing them naturally; so essential amino acids have to be ingested through an array of protein sources. Of the 9 essential amino acids, 3 are believed to be the most effective at protein synthesis- and BCAAs are made up of all three: valine, and isoleucine.

The proven benefits of BCAAs

Leads to weight loss

The process of weight loss is not always easy but BCAAs can help to make the journey less treacherous. BCAAs, particularly as isoleucine, has been known to increase metabolism while suppressing one’s appetite. Taken post-workout, BCAAs can also help you replace lost nutrients as well as maintain lean muscle mass.

Post-workout recovery

BCAAs from trusted and valuable brands such as BCAA plus series can reduce the amount of soreness experienced after a workout so that one can heal quickly. BCAAs are also instrumental after intense workout sessions. Because strength levels of individuals taking BCAA supplements recover much faster, individuals are then able to do more after an intense session.

They prevent muscle wasting

If you work out on a regular basis, tissue damage is almost an inevitability. Though you may have developed great stamina, you might still face muscle loss and fatigue but BCAAs are helpful as they prevent this from happening. Supplementing BCAAs especially with high quantities of leucine can diminish the rate of protein degradation, therefore, ensuring that there is a balance between protein breakdown and synthesis.

Increase the growth of muscles

BCAAs such as leucine create the perfect environment for muscle synthesis. If you have reached your goal of muscle size but want to become more defined, BCAAs are famous for aiding muscle definition so they should be included as part of your regimen.
