Since it premiered in 2008, Sons of Anarchy has been one of the most popular TV shows, with an IMDB score of 8.6 out of 10.
This TV show revolves around the main character Jackson “Jax” Teller (Charlie Hunnam) who is a man in his early 30’s struggling to find a balance in his life between being a father and his involvement in a motorcycle gang called SAMCRO which stands for Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original. Each season has different parallel plot lines that oven intertwine and overlap, with the center point being the personal and family life of Jax and the motorcycle gang. The gang itself is involved in criminal most notoriously with gun-running, deals with rival gangs, politicians and authorities all in the western United States.
With that being the plot, let me tell you why the TV show has been so popular over the years.
Kurt Sutter
One of the most important components in the success of the TV show is the series creator Kurt Sutter. Kurt has worked on all seven seasons of ‘The Shield’ as a writer and producer, later he got the change of creating his own show. His shows were violent, dark dramas and he soon got the change to work from staff writer to story editor by season two on Sons of Anarchy. He was so dedicated that he actually went and spent time with motorcycle gang members in Northern California to catch that feeling of realism of being in a motorcycle gang.
Charlie Hunnam
Charlie Hunnam ticked all the boxes to be the lead in the famous TV show. Without his strong performances as Jax, the show would absolutely not live up to the fame it did. In whatever situation the gang members had themselves in, it has been Jax’s struggle on how he should act and lead in those situations, much like his father, John Teller. He has proven in the show over the seasons that he is the right president for the gang and has played both father role and gang leader perfectly since he took it.

Katey Sagal
Her role as Hunnam’s equal has seen her give Emmy-worthy performances. Even if the show writing has managed to fail her a few times, her performances have been one of the biggest draws to new fans. Her acting in season two after being raped by Zobel’s gang, was a standout moment for her acting, displaying talent, and diversity in her acting. Her role has been considered by many as not the most likable, but whether she is asked to act the loving grandmother or the ruthless biker queen, she has not failed to deliver.
The Music
Music in movies on television has been key to draw out emotions in recent times. Sons of Anarchy has moments where silence is the more powerful sound than some of the heart-wrenching songs the show has. The show has used music very well, picking up songs for the right moments and excellent renditions that enhance an already great scene. One of the best musical moments in the shows (in my opinion) is the end of the second and third season finales, where an original take on Bohemian Rhapsody blended amazingly with the ending scene. I must say that the music in Sons of Anarchy has been outstanding and only a few shows have managed to do it better than them.
