If you’re going to visit Cyprus soon or you’re thinking about it, this article is a must read. Cyprus is an island located in the Mediterranean sea. It is located close to West-Asia, but has been part of the European Union since 2004. The island is split up in two parts: the west part of the island is part of Greece, while the right side is Turkish. However, there are some parts of Cyprus that still belong to the United Kingdom.

Cyprus enjoys a warm climate all year long. In Cyprus, it rarely gets colder than 17 degrees Celsius (62.6 °F.), making it the perfect winter beach destination. Summer in Cyprus can be rather hot and dry, with temperatures rising above 30 degrees Celsius (80 °F.). The best time to visit Cyprus is between May and June. Not sure where to go? This article will certainly give you some inspiration. Keep reading for the three best places to go in Cyprus.

Paphos is one of the best places to go if you’re looking for that perfect balance between beach time and exploring the city. Known as the birthplace of the goddess of love Aphrodite, the city is divided in two parts: Upper Paphos and Lower Paphos. Upper Paphos is considered as the center of the city and is located on a hill. From here, you’ll be able to take in the beautiful view of the city and the beach behind it. Looking for more things to do in this area? Visit this site for more information about traveling to Cyprus.

Lower Paphos

Lower Paphos is located at the coast and has some of the most tranquil beaches of Cyprus. Because the beach is crescent shaped and tucked away in a bay, the water is calm, clear and shallow. If you’re planning a family vacation with the little ones, this place is perfect. On the beach, you’ll find plenty of things to do, such as several kinds of water sports and dive centers where you can go for a leisure dive or to receive your diving certification.

Visit the ancient ruin

If you love to go to museums and visit historical sites, you’ll be happy to go to this part of the city. Here you will find ancient Roman ruins and interesting landmarks. This part of the city also has a vibrant shipping scene and lots of eateries for enjoying international and local food. Other things to do around lower Paphos are going to the local amusement park, go-karting, or going to one of the many ancient ruins.

2. Limassol

If a vibrant nightlife is what you’re looking for, Limassol certainly won’t disappoint. This city is the second biggest urban destination in Cyprus and is filled with bars, restaurants, and casino’s. The city is located at the coast and has a major sea port, making it a more popular destination than the islands’ capital city Nicosia. The Limassol Marina is a good place to spot some impressive yachts and enjoy a plate of freshly caught seafood in one of the many restaurants.

If you walk just a little further, you’ll see the old fishermen’s port that is still in use today by the locals. Both the Marina and the Old Port have been designed to effortlessly blend in with the city center, which is adjacent to both of these places. While you’re at the old fishing harbor, don’t forget to go to the old town center. It’s only a short walk away and the amazing architecture won’t let you down. You’ll find some traditional workshops, local art galleries, and traditional shops and markets in this area.

Limassol coast

Limassol has kilometers of coastline and is therefore very popular for those looking to enjoy both the vibrant urban life and the relaxing beach vibes. One of the most popular places to visit is the Limassol promenade. Keep your shoes clean and dry while still enjoying the view of sandy beaches and palm trees calmly moving in the cooling breeze. The Limassol coastline is dotted with beaches. You’ll find sandy shores and pebble stone beaches as well. Most beaches offer modern facilities, such as beach chairs, showers, lockers, and beach clubs.

Starting point for exploration

With a car, you can get to many popular destinations around Cyprus easily. The government has started to give incentives to foreign investors, collecting enough funds to drastically improve their infrastructure. From Limassol you’ll be able to reach Ayia Napa en Larnaca  in under an hour by rental car, while capital city Nicosia island and the Troodos mountain range are only a slightly longer drive. The great location makes Limassol a popular destination for those who are looking to see a little more than just one destination.

3. The Troodos Mountains

Cyprus has more to offer than beach activities and urban destinations only. Certainly a special place that should be mentioned is the Troodos mountain range. This mountain range stretches across the western part of Cyprus and can be easily reached by car from Limassol. Because of the high altitude of the mountains, snow covers the peaks during winter. This makes the Troodos Mountains a popular skiing destination for travelers from all around the world.

Hiking natural trails

You’ll find plenty of skiing resorts in the mountain range that are loved by both travelers and locals, looking to cool down from the summer heat. Temperature can drop as low as -5 degrees Celsius (23 °F.). Skiing is not the only thing to do in the Troodos Mountains. It is also a popular hiking destination as it has many natural trails to explore. On your way you’ll encounter hidden waterfalls and lots of forest. Hiking is best done during the summer, when the snow has melted away and leaves turn green again.
