The marriage of Prince Charles and late Princess Diana is one of the most talked about royal marriages, probably in the history of the royal family. It started as a fairy tale, and pretty quickly, it became a nightmare that destroyed one life, and almost destroyed three other ones. Now, some information about their divorce is available to the public. But, do we know what was the final stage, and why Princess Diana agreed to divorce from her husband after a long marriage? Let`s find out.
First, Princess Diana Didn`t Want a Divorce
Probably almost at the start of their marriage, Princess Diana knew that Prince Charles is in love with Camilla Parker Bowles, but she decided that she doesn`t want to divorce from him, but instead, she wanted to work through it and win the love of her husband. Also, she had difficulties with integrating into the royal family, that didn’t make her life any easier.
Ultimately, she decided that she wants to stay married to Charles. As it was revealed by Jenni Rivett, Princess Diana`s friend and personal trainer, she loved Charles, and she wanted to stay with him. She married him because she loved him and because she wanted to be a loving mother and wife. But, things don`t go every time as we would like them to.
Plus, there were her two sons William and Harry. She loved both of them very much and didn’t want them to go through the divorce of their parents. Diana herself was a child of divorced parents and had a very unstable childhood, so it is only natural that she didn’t want her sons to go through that. She knew how that can influence the children.
Why Did She Agree to Divorce Prince Charles?
Usually, wishes are one thing and the reality is completely different. We can describe the marriage of Prince Charles and Princess Diana with those words. In the early nineties, Princess Diana started to talk about her feelings towards Charles, and her decision that she wants to divorce him. As her biographer is saying, she struggled to fight against Prince Charles affairs and the scandals that were manufactured by it.
This became even more hard for Diana, after tapes, that featured Prince Charles and Camilla Bowles having an explicit conversation, leaked to the public. This was probably the ultimate reason Princess Diana decided that she wants to get a divorce. Plus, the tapes were considered to be an attack on the image of the royal family. They didn’t take it lightly.
However, that didn’t stop Diana from speaking publicly about her husband`s affairs and her life as a member of the royal family. She even said publicly, that there were three of them in one marriage, she indirectly pointed to Camilla and Charles` affair. Queen Elizabeth was so disappointed in both of them and public unrevealing of embarrassing information about the royal family. She sent a letter two both of them and ordered them to get a divorce. The couple divorced in August 1996.
