Prince Harry had Princess Diana’s ring
Prince William and Prince Harry went to Kensington Palace to choose a “keepsake” after the death of their mother Princess Diana in 1997, according to Reader’s Digest.
At that time they were only 12 and 15 years old. Prince Harry chose that exact engagement ring while Prince William went for her mother’s Cartier watch.
So how did the engagement ring end up with Prince William in the end?
Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton, who was his girlfriend at the time and he used his mother’s ring when proposing. So how exactly did it come to this? The ring was given to him by Prince Harry.
“They had an agreement that whoever got engaged first would have Diana’s ring,” is what a source told the Reader’s Digest. Even though Prince Harry had been carrying the ring with him for 13 years then he decided to give to Prince William in spite of him choosing his mother watch and instead of the ring.
How did Prince William pop the question?
It was fall of 2010 when Prince William popped the question to his college girlfriend. It all happened in Kenya in a remote log cabin where the two had been staying, the future king asked Kate Middleton to marry him.
As he was announcing the engagement in November of the same year he talked about how much his mother’s meant to him and what giving it to Kate meant. He said that by proposing with Princess Diana’s ring was “my way of making sure my mother didn’t miss out on today and the excitement.”
“It’s very special to me,” he went on. “As Kate’s very special to me now, it was right to put the two together.”
Prince Harry made Princess Diana a part of his engagement ring given to Meghan Markle
Unlike his older brother Prince Harry decided to propose to Meghan while they were at hope roasting a chicken, as said in an interview the two of them gave after their engagement announcement.
“It was so sweet and natural and very romantic,” She told BBC. “He got on one knee.”
Prince Harry also said that in his opinion he caught Meghan by surprise, which she also confirmed. Meghan said how she answered right away. “I could barely let you finish proposing,” Markle told Prince Harry in the interview.
Even though Prince Harry didn’t pop the question with Princess Diana’s ring he still somehow made her a part of it.
“The ring is obviously yellow gold because that’s Meghan’s favorite and the main stone itself I sourced from Botswana and the little diamonds on either side are from Princess Diana’s jewelry collection, to make sure that she’s with us on this crazy journey together,” Prince Harry said in the interview.
“It’s beautiful, and he designed it. It’s incredible,” Markle said.
How much did Prince Harry pay for the ring?
Michael Fried, CEO of Diamond Pro said that Meghan’s diamond engagement ring couldn’t be priced, as he told Money. “Having diamonds from the royal collection that Princess Diana wore makes the ring priceless,” he said.
