Joe Anoa’i,33, better known as Roman Reigns, the current WWE Universal champion, has revealed on WWE’s television show ‘’Monday Night Raw’’ that he has leukemia, and will be taking some time off.
In that statement, he revealed his real name and the fact that he is battling leukemia since he was 22 years old. He said that he will appreciate every prayer fans send and made a promise that he will be back.
He revealed that he is going back home to spent time with his friends and family, and to concentrate more on his recovery.
“I will beat this, and I will be back, so you will see me very, very soon.”
Reigns then put the title belt in the ring and walked away. The Shield, Dean Ambrose, and Seth Rollins, all embraced Reigns on the entrance ramp, with Ambrose and Rollins in tears.
WWE issued a report after Reigns’ speech that said, “Tonight on Monday Night Raw, Roman Reigns [aka Joe Anoa’i] announced that he is relinquishing the WWE Universal Championship and taking a leave of absence from WWE as he once again fights leukemia, which had been in remission since late 2008. Reigns is taking his battle with leukemia public in an effort to raise awareness and funds for research in order to advance cures for the disease.”
