The Duke of Cambridge tried to prevent the accident and save the boy from drowning in May last year. In his latest TV interview, he revealed how he felt at that moment and how this experience affected him after. Prince William is an experienced member of the East Anglian Air Ambulance, former Royal Air Force search and pilot.
The tragedy has happened in May 2017 when the 16 years old Robbie started drowning at North Met Pit lake. Prince William, who has several years long experience in rescuing situations, joined the crew as a pilot to help to save the boy. Unfortunately, Robbie drowned and an hour after the search his body was found in the lake.
Robbie’s mother, 33 years old Sarah Lea, praised the Duke of Cambridge for his bravery. Sarah said that the future king showed his humanity while attempting to save Robbie from drowning. She is still in therapy and suffering from this traumatic event. Her younger son, a seven-year-old Mason, is also going through a difficult period.
In the interview, Prince William talked for the first time about his feelings regarding this unfortunate event. He said that since he became a father, he reacts more emotionally and his feelings in rescuing situations are much different than before. Attending to child’s death is a traumatic experience who makes you feel “very sad and very down”.
