Where to Cruise in 2027 for Great Cities, Food, Nightlife and Time on Shore

Some cruises are built around beaches, private islands and days at sea. Others give you a much more interesting reason to book the trip. You wake up in a new city, spend the day eating and exploring, stay ashore for dinner and still have several hours left before the ship leaves.

For 2027, there are routes that do exactly that across several continents. Liverpool gets a late evening departure on a British Isles sailing. Mumbai appears as a two-day stop. Bangkok, Tokyo and Osaka have overnight calls on selected Asian itineraries. Buenos Aires gets overnight stays, and Rio de Janeiro appears with late departures on the new Princess South America season.

The destinations below are not twelve versions of the same European port day. They cover the UK, India, Southeast Asia, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Iceland, South America, Africa and the eastern Mediterranean, with food and nightlife given as much attention as monuments and excursions.

1. British Isles

Regal Princess is part of Princess Cruises’ fleet and operates itineraries in several regions worldwide.

A British Isles cruise can give you several proper city days without relying on long transfers from industrial ports. Liverpool is particularly convenient because the cruise terminal sits next to the city centre and within walking distance of the waterfront, Royal Albert Dock and central neighbourhoods.

Cunard has a 14-night British Isles sailing in June and July 2027 that reaches Belfast on July 5 and Liverpool on July 6. Liverpool is scheduled from early morning until late evening, which leaves much more room than a standard afternoon departure.

You could spend the first part of the day around the waterfront and museums, move inland toward Bold Street for lunch, then continue toward the Georgian Quarter or Baltic Triangle. Liverpool changes noticeably after office hours, particularly around its pubs, live music venues and smaller bars.

Also, if you are traveling alone, and you want to have some fun while checking out nightclubs or various events, you can check out Liverpool escorts.

A late departure also means dinner does not have to happen back on the ship. Duke Street, Castle Street and the area around Bold Street provide plenty of places to eat before moving on for drinks or live music.

Belfast brings another city day to the same itinerary, and South Queensferry provides access to Edinburgh on other British Isles routes. Add Scottish island ports such as Stornoway and the trip moves repeatedly between busy urban stops and much smaller coastal communities.

2. India – Mumbai and a Completely Different Experience

Mumbai is a city where an overnight cruise call matters. Trying to fit Colaba, the historic centre, markets, food and an evening out into a short daytime stop would leave much of the city untouched.

Oceania has an 18-day Singapore to Doha sailing in April and May 2027 with Mumbai listed on both May 7 and May 8. The wider itinerary runs through Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Phuket, Galle, the Maldives, Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Start around the Gateway of India and Colaba if it is your first visit, but leave a large part of the day for food. Mumbai gives you everything from pav bhaji and kebabs to seafood, regional Indian cooking and restaurants that stay busy well into the evening.

The overnight makes the nightlife side of the city far easier to enjoy. Colaba has bars and restaurants close to the waterfront, while areas such as Bandra and Lower Parel extend the night in a different direction with cocktail bars, clubs and late dining. Again, if you don’t have company, and really want to enjoy various events around the city, Mumbai escorts can be a great solution to spend a more enjoyable evening.

India also appears on itineraries that call at Goa and Kochi. Goa adds beaches, Portuguese architectural influences and its own nightlife scene. Kochi brings Kerala food, waterfront areas and a pace that feels very different from Mumbai.

3. Southern Australia – Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney

View of an Australian city skyline from a cruise ship deck
Australian cruises can connect major cities such as Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide without requiring domestic flights.

Australia is difficult to cover efficiently by land because its major cities sit so far apart. A cruise along the southern coast changes the logistics. Instead of airports and domestic flights, you can link several cities and use the ship as the overnight transport.

Princess has published a 2027 and 2028 Australian season with three ships in the region, and its surrounding 2026 and 2027 schedule includes departures from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.

Adelaide deserves time in the city rather than an immediate transfer elsewhere. Adelaide Central Market gives you an easy food-focused start, followed by the restaurants and bars around Peel Street, Leigh Street and the East End. There are so many events, so you will surely have fun,, whether you want to travel, alone, with a company of friends, or Adelaide escorts.

South Australian wine regions sit close enough to become part of the day too. A port visit can therefore split naturally between wine outside the city and dinner back in central Adelaide later on.

Melbourne has a completely different scale. Chinatown, Carlton, Fitzroy, the CBD laneways and inner-city bars can fill the entire call without leaving the urban area. Sydney works well at the beginning or end of the cruise because an extra hotel night gives you time that a same-day flight and embarkation would waste.

4. Brazil and Uruguay

Rio de Janeiro needs more than a rushed beach visit followed by an early return to the ship. A cruise with a late departure lets the city move from sightseeing into dinner and nightlife without dividing those experiences across separate trips.

Princess has announced its 2027 and 2028 South America season aboard Majestic Princess, including Rio de Janeiro and Montevideo. Selected sailings include a late-night call in Rio.

During the day, Copacabana and Ipanema can sit alongside Santa Teresa, the centre or one of the classic viewpoints. Staying later gives you time to eat first and decide where the evening goes after that.

Rio nightlife is spread across several parts of the city rather than contained in one tourist district. Lapa has samba venues and busy streets after dark, while Ipanema, Botafogo and other neighbourhoods offer bars and restaurants with a less concentrated feel.

Montevideo makes a useful contrast on the same route. The old city sits close to the port, and Mercado del Puerto gives meat and local wine a natural place in the day. It is a city where walking, eating and stopping for a drink can easily replace a tightly scheduled excursion.

5. Patagonia – Buenos Aires, Ushuaia and Southern Chile

Patagonia cruises are usually advertised through glaciers, Cape Horn and dramatic coastlines. The route also links a chain of cities that are worth treating as destinations rather than staging points for excursions.

Princess plans 15-day Cape Horn and Patagonia voyages between Buenos Aires and San Antonio in late 2027. Every sailing in its announced South America season includes an overnight in Buenos Aires, and selected departures also have late-night time in Ushuaia.

Buenos Aires is exactly the sort of place where an overnight changes the trip. Dinner starts later than in many cruise destinations, and a normal evening in the city does not fit neatly around a 5 p.m. departure.

Steak and Malbec are easy starting points, but the food scene goes much further. Palermo, San Telmo, Recoleta and Chacarita all give you different combinations of restaurants, bars and neighbourhood streets to explore after dark.

Farther south, Ushuaia puts seafood and Patagonian ingredients on the table before the itinerary continues toward Chile. Norwegian also lists a December 2027 route through Argentina and Chile with Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Puerto Madryn, Ushuaia, Punta Arenas, Puerto Montt and San Antonio.

Punta Arenas and Puerto Montt are smaller stops, but they give the cruise a genuine Chilean component before the trip reaches the Santiago region. The result is not simply a scenic cruise around Cape Horn. It is also a long journey through very different parts of Argentina and Chile.

6. Thailand and Vietnam

Singapore is a major Southeast Asian cruise hub and a common starting or ending point for regional itineraries.

Southeast Asia is particularly rewarding when the ship stays long enough for passengers to eat dinner ashore. Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City are poor places to spend the day worrying about an early gangway deadline.

Royal Caribbean has a 10-night Thailand and Vietnam cruise departing Singapore on January 2, 2027. Its Bangkok call at Laem Chabang runs from the morning of January 6 until the afternoon of January 7.

That timing matters because Laem Chabang is outside Bangkok itself. Staying overnight removes much of the pressure to travel into the city, rush through the main sights and immediately start thinking about the drive back.

Bangkok can fill the first day with temples, markets and river travel, then shift toward restaurants, rooftop bars, Chinatown and other nightlife after dark. You still have the following morning for another part of the city before returning to the ship.

Ho Chi Minh City deserves a food-heavy day. Pho and banh mi are obvious starting points, but street stalls, cafes, markets and regional Vietnamese cooking can occupy as much of the visit as the historic buildings.

A cruise that connects Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City with Singapore turns three very different major cities into a single Asian trip without forcing you through several airport days.

7. Japan – Osaka and Tokyo

Visitors walking through the Asakusa temple district in Tokyo
Asakusa is one of Tokyo’s best-known historic districts and is home to Sensō-ji, the city’s oldest Buddhist temple

Japan becomes much easier to enjoy from a cruise when the timetable includes a night in port. Osaka and Tokyo both have too much going on after sunset for an early evening departure to feel satisfying.

Royal Caribbean has an eight-night Shanghai sailing in June 2027 with overnight calls in both Osaka and Tokyo. The ship reaches Osaka on June 20 and remains until the afternoon of June 21, then arrives in Tokyo on June 22 and leaves the following evening.

Osaka gives you a straightforward choice. Use part of the call for Kyoto, which is accessible by rail, or stay in Osaka and spend more time around Namba, Dotonbori and surrounding neighbourhoods.

Food alone can justify staying in Osaka for the evening. Takoyaki, okonomiyaki, kushikatsu and small izakaya make the city easy to explore one stop at a time rather than through a single formal dinner.

Tokyo needs an even more selective plan. Trying to cover Asakusa, Shibuya, Shinjuku, Ginza and several other districts in one day creates more train rides than actual travel experience. An overnight gives you one evening and most of the following day, so different parts of the city can be separated rather than compressed.

8. Iceland – Reykjavik, Akureyri and Long Summer Evenings

Iceland does not need tropical weather to work as a cruise destination. The appeal comes from combining dramatic coastal scenery with small towns and a proper city stop in Reykjavik.

Azamara lists a 12-night Ireland and Iceland cruise for August 2027 covering Dublin, Icelandic ports and Reykjavik.

Reykjavik is compact enough that an evening ashore does not become a transport exercise. Restaurants, bars, bakeries and music venues sit within a relatively small central area, so dinner can lead naturally into drinks without planning the night around taxis across a huge city.

Seafood, lamb and Icelandic dairy products give the food side plenty of local character. Coffee shops and bakeries also make Reykjavik useful for a slower morning after a late night.

Akureyri adds a much smaller northern city to the same type of itinerary. The route works particularly well for travellers who want waterfalls, geothermal landscapes and fjords during the day but still want some city life during the cruise.

9. Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore

A route through Bali, Malaysia and Singapore is one of the easiest ways to make food the centre of the trip. The distances are manageable, but the cooking changes noticeably from one port to the next.

Celebrity has an 11-night Bali, Malaysia and Thailand cruise departing December 1, 2027. It starts with two calendar days in Bali, reaches Port Klang, Penang and Langkawi, spends two days at Phuket and finishes in Singapore.

Penang is the port where lunch can become the main event. George Town brings Malay, Chinese and Indian influences together in hawker centres, small restaurants and street food stalls, all within an urban area that is easy to explore on foot in sections.

Bali gives the cruise a different beginning. Staying on the island before departure also solves the problem of treating Bali as a few rushed hours around the port.

Singapore deserves at least an additional night after disembarkation. Chinatown, Little India, Kampong Glam and hawker centres across the city provide enough variation for several days, and Singapore after dark feels very different from a hurried embarkation morning.

10. New Zealand – Auckland, Wellington and the South Island

New Zealand cruise marketing tends to focus on mountains, fiords and coastal scenery, but its cities deserve their own time. Auckland and Wellington both work particularly well before the itinerary moves toward smaller South Island ports.

Princess has published its Australia, Asia and New Zealand programme through 2028, including a 79-night Circle Pacific sailing from Auckland in June 2027 and other regional departures connecting New Zealand with Australia and the Pacific.

Auckland is a natural place to add nights before or after sailing. Britomart and the waterfront provide restaurants and bars close to the harbour, while Ponsonby gives you another part of the city for dinner and drinks.

Wellington is smaller and easier to cover in a port day. Coffee, craft beer, restaurants and the central waterfront sit relatively close together, so you can spend most of the call exploring rather than moving between distant attractions.

South Island stops then change the emphasis. Dunedin brings Scottish heritage and a compact city centre, while cruises through Fiordland replace urban time with some of the scenery that draws people to New Zealand in the first place.

11. South Africa – Visit Cape Town Before Heading Up the Atlantic

Boats and waterfront buildings at Cape Town harbor
Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront is one of the city’s busiest visitor areas, with restaurants, shops and harbor views.

Cape Town can turn a long cruise into something closer to two different holidays. One part of the day can be spent around the city and waterfront, another in the Cape Peninsula or nearby wine country, and the evening can still end back at a restaurant in town.

Silversea places Cape Town at the centre of part of its Three Oceans World Cruise in 2027. Silver Dawn travels from Mahé to Cape Town from March 28 to April 11, then continues from Cape Town toward Dakar.

Food gives Cape Town plenty of reasons to stay ashore. Seafood, Cape Malay cooking, South African wine and a large modern restaurant scene make dinner part of the destination rather than something to save for the ship.

Nightlife is spread around several areas, including the central city, Bree Street, Long Street and neighbourhoods closer to the Atlantic coast. The V&A Waterfront provides the easiest option for passengers who want restaurants and drinks without travelling far from the harbour.

The same long-distance route continues through West Africa before reaching Europe. For travellers with enough time, that creates a cruise experience very different from repeated seven-night loops through the same regional ports.

12. Greece, Cyprus and Turkey

The eastern Mediterranean remains useful for travellers who want several city-heavy days close together. Greece, Cyprus and Turkey provide plenty of historical sites, but the trip becomes much more enjoyable when dinner and evening time remain part of the port day.

Azamara has announced an 11-night Greece, Cyprus and Turkey sailing from November 10 to 21, 2027. Other 2027 itineraries from the line also combine Athens and Greek ports with Istanbul and the Turkish coast.

Istanbul is the city where extra hours make the largest difference. The historic peninsula fills the daytime easily, but dinner elsewhere gives you a chance to cross into neighbourhoods such as Karaköy, Galata or Kadıköy rather than remaining around the major monuments.

Athens deserves similar treatment. An Acropolis visit can occupy the first part of the day, leaving dinner and drinks for neighbourhoods such as Monastiraki, Psyrri, Koukaki or Pangrati.

Cyprus adds another type of stop. Limassol has a waterfront, old town and restaurant scene that fit naturally into an afternoon and evening ashore. On a route already filled with large historic cities, the smaller scale provides some breathing room.

Final Thoughts

The interesting part of cruising is how far the choices now stretch. One trip can take you through Liverpool pubs and live music, another through Mumbai food streets, Japanese city nights, South American ports or long evenings in Reykjavik.

Some travellers will want several nights out in major cities. Others will remember a market in Penang, dinner in Buenos Aires, wine near Adelaide or an evening walking through Istanbul long after the main sightseeing crowds have gone.

There is no single route that covers everything, and there does not need to be. Pick the part of the world you actually want to experience on land, then find a 2027 itinerary that gives you enough time to enjoy it properly.
