5. Meteora Monasteries

One of the most unusual, interesting, and a little bit shocking thing to see in Greece has to be the Thessaly Plain where strange rocky outcrops are crowned by the centuries-old monasteries of Meteora.

The six monasteries are on the UNESCO World Heritage list as well and are all open to the public. If you don’t have a problem with hights, you will need to climb up several flights of steep stone stairs that are etched into the rocks to reach each monastery.
