Princes Charles expressed his desire not to live at the Buckingham Palace once he becomes King of England. But what is the reason behind this?
The reason
Even though he once lived in Buckingham Palace, and even though the Palace serves as a home for the monarch, Prince Charles has no intentions of living there. “I know he is no fan of ‘the big house,’ as he calls the palace,” an insider shared with Hello! Magazine. “He doesn’t see it as a viable future home or a house that’s fit for purpose in the modern world. He feels its upkeep, both from a cost and environmental perspective is not sustainable.”
Buckingham Palace is currently undergoing renovations, which will most likely end around 2027-2028. Even if he wanted to, he wouldn’t be able to live in it, due to the renovations. He has plans for Buckingham Palace to be more open to the public (it is currently available from July to October) and he even stated how, once his mother, Queen Elizabeth II dies, he wants to have a memorial exhibition as a tribute to his mother, Britain’s longest-reigning monarch in the Palace.
Where will he live?
He will most probably stay at Clarence House, where he currently resides with his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles. He moved from Buckingham Palace once his grandmother died.
Clarence House is around 200 years old. It was built between 1825 and 1827. It contains a lot of art pieces, as well as furniture from Queen Mother, Prince Charles’ late grandmother. When Prince Charles and his wife go on a vacation to Balmoral Castle in August, the Clarence House is open for the public to see.
