Eyeglasses are available in many different types, which can be a single-vision having one power, the whole part may have power or bifocal, and the trifocal type, having multiple strengths all over the lens.

You may need the bifocal or trifocal only if you want different strength in the lenses to see far or near objects. Many of the multifocal eyepieces can also be designed with just a visible line that separates different areas of prescription.

In case you prefer a multifocal eyepiece, with no-line, then progressive additional lens or (PAL) can be a great option for you.

What is a progressive lens?

As per Glasses Gallery reviews, PAL lenses are for those people, who need the glass for seeing both near and far objects. In short, these can help you to see with clarity at multiple distances without having any bifocal line.

The need for such PAL will increase with your age. If you are between 35 and 40 years, you may find it difficult to focus on nearby objects which are called presbyopia. In order to take care of this deficiency, people may wear eyeglass that can help in reading and to look at the distance.

However, PAL can provide much simpler as well as a convenient option for such age-related vision problems:

  1. The upper portion of the progressive lens will provide the strength that you need in order to see properly in the distance.
  2. The lower portion will provide the strength that you need for seeing clearly the closer distance.
  3. The mid-section will help you see clearly at any intermediate/middle distances

There will be a gradual transition of strength in the lenses from its top to bottom. Though such progressive eyepieces are mostly meant for older people, this can be an option for children as well, if they need a powerful vision for both near and far sights.

Advantages of progressive lenses

1. Only need a single pair of eyeglasses

You need not use the separate lens for reading and seeing the distant object but by using a single glass, you can view both near and far away objects.

Thus, with a single pair of eyeglasses, your needs can be met.

2. No bifocal line

The progressive eyeglasses can provide multifocal vision benefits without any line on it, as well as giving you better vision and clarity during sudden shifts or moves.

3. Modern and youthful appearance

Usually bifocal or trifocal eyeglasses may give you an appearance of old age however with progressive lens there is no visible line so you may look young.

Disadvantages of progressive lenses

1. You need to learn to see using these eyeglasses

There is no dividing line like Bifocals or trifocal lenses, so initially, you may feel inconvenience, but slowly and gradually you will get adjusted to it.

2. Temporary vision distortions

Initially, you may have certain distorted views particularly if you look below then you will find your feet to be large. You will need to train yourself until your eyes get adjusted to it.

3. More expensive

Since you are getting 3 different lenses in one, its cost will be much higher when compared to others.

There are many brick and mortar and online optical stores you can buy your progressive lenses from, but you need to ensure that you are getting a good quality product for the price you are paying. Thus, it is recommended that you do a little research and choose the optical store wise. Gather as much information you can about the store before you buy your lenses. If needed, call or visit them personally to ensure you are choosing the best one in the market.
